like to hear your thoughts on this sketch of a cat motorsailer was planning drawing something like this but got challanced aft hinged whishbone mast rigged with stern spreaders davids lift a small car in the hull, tender in the other and how about a glued alu spaceframe with airex
thanks for the welcome and yes its a "wild design and render" as concept i think "Ca suffit" (as mentioned in another thread) working on it, other liberal and even wilder ideas in my gallery
Dunno where the heck everybody went Yipster But while they are away perhaps you could offer a translation of "Ca suffit"? Kelly
its sufficient or is enough along those lines reading "Ca suffit" gave me a wide smile this morning o yeah, nice area, nice boats, perfect sign
I've never seen a sailing yacht with the mast that far aft. But then I haven't seen many wishbone rigs either. Would you happen to have a photo of an existing yacht with similar rig? (Love the modeling on the Porche BTW) Kelly
i like porsches also ( used stockart here ;-) couldnt quikly find a free small car but fits in 16 x 8 meter boat tho as for the A rig: no leading edge ( mast ) on mainsail, jib on furler, can carry 2 sails lateral and much more ( and folds away nicely -maybe in white- on a motorsailor ;-) more at arno gaudier running tide yachts and boatdeasign cheers
Thanks for those links yipster. I had not heard of these aftmasted rigs before. That design by Arno Gaudier is certainly thinking outside the box! Kelly
not drawn are aft stays and sprits, whats new ? not the reversed wavepiercing bow or taking a car not the rig nor a motor sailer, but havent seen it so like to hear what you guy's think of my concept
Hello Yipster Don't know how I missed this. Keep it coming. Any chance of a single rendering under full sail? Kelly, agreed, the Gaudier model is beautiful!
Yipster, as an armchair designer (oh heck, I would even make a mess of an armchair) the only critical concern I would have is the extreme forward location of the wheelhouse. Seems like it would be begging to play submarine in big swell. Otherwise I would say it's a breathtaking concept. An actual build would require a client that is a real risk taker. But those people do exist. It's really great to see such a refreshing design (I'm not buying the "whats new ?" humility). Kelly
KCook, thanks for the apriciation and feedback to another armchair designer. big forward strakes above the wavepiercers give buoancy, keep spray down, and together with a little setback 3 meter bow in pilothouse should prevent nosediving, also see incat, together its still a refreshing design you agree right? Codger, here a quik -not in raytrace- possible dual jib allready covering 150 m2 leaving planty other full 3d sailplans, maybe mast should be little fwd and dont forget the idea is a liveaboard motor sailer
I saw that some of the sails on the Arno Gaudier design had booms. I think that would make the sail a lot more effective. Though a boom can be a nuisance to deal with. Kelly
thanks jimminychricket, tri and cat racing sailers argue for a very small cockpit this is not a racer but fast motorsailor liveaboard 16x8 meter concept with 2 kingsize beds under pilothouse with sitee, badroom etc in the hulls 5x8 to 7x8 meter aft saloon with jacuzzi in the ceiling 6x7 meter pilothouse 6x7 meter flybridge (with pool) 4 flloors in 3 meter high, plus 1 clearance is 4 metr total height think i better draw some detailed interior to show what i mean keeping your thoughts in mind
try'd a variation with pilot house aft but int layout dont get better specially bedrooms aft give little hullspace. forward pliothouse gives little less sail but may help staying ahead of the wet and on the sharp bows dont think windage will make much of a difference
Your hull shapes now seem to almost be keels in reverse? That could result in issues with bow steering. Kelly
that depends, if the reversed full lenght sharp V wavepiercing bow is not crooked it, on the contrairy, should provide good liniar stability for long range cruising no bowrudders intended for close quarters with 2 engines available detachable bow sections might make sense for colission and production still not satisfied with mast, should be an A with or without bar, perhaps made of separete booms and many more things to consider and specify overall tho, i find it a interesting concept worth further exploring
