That is the discharge side of the exhaust elbow from my Port engine. There should be 4 water discharge ports!

With that kind of back pressure on the water I am surprised you did not blow anything. With normal flow going through the 671 you should only have 4 lbs back pressure.

    Hi Bob,
Holy cow, how did they ever cool off !

Are your 671's turbo'd ? I have cast iron mixing elbow I would part with if you need it but it is for 410 HP turbocharged 671. The elbow is new and in perfect condition.

Yup, that's why I added 1/2 inch bypasses to both engines to get through the season. It manifested itself by blowing off hoses after I replaced impellers. Even with the bypasses it was running 30+psi at cruise. I knew it was coming and you can see the new stainless elbows a few pages back. I'm finding out my old body doesn't bend like it used to!

Teach me. Where would those 4 ports usually be located?

If you look closely you can see the oval shapes at 2, 4, 8, & 10 o'clock.

Hi Bob!! Wow that thing is gone. At least that confirms your issue. Always good when that happens. Do you also have the aluminum exhaust angle piece between this elbow and the muffler? If so, good to check the condition of these since you have the exhaust apart. These rot out too over the years. I shipped my old ones to D'Angelo's in Fl and they made perfect copies.

FWIIW, when I had to replace my cast iron elbows, I used Marine Exhaust in Farmingdale NY.

Didn't have to send the old ones, they were able to build based on my application (J&T 6-71 TI).
    Top notch work.

My 1982 42 had the same port and starboard hatches as shown here, but I did not have the center hatch.

Well time to get started on the boat. Figured I'd get started installing the new exhaust elbows when I noticed some paint lifting. A few minutes of poking and all is normal in my world!

Every time I go to take care of the next project I get side tracked because I look around too much and spend a few days fixing something else so I feel better about fixing what I started out to do. Knock it out. Summer is coming up there and May for me is Bahamas time. New power cord is next on the list for me.
