What is the origin of the name of Luca Bassani's "Wally" shipyard?

That's it. But what exactly was his rationale for naming his first yacht after a cartoon character?

The origins of names have always been interesting. There was some speculation about "Izanami", which was later debunked by one of our members. "Katana" (ex-ECO) was derived from the name of the Samuri sword. An appropriate name for this yacht given its ability to "slice" through head seas and LE's interest in all things Japanese.

On this subject, where was the name "Octopus" derived from?

Never heard why, but a keen scuba diver naming one yacht Meduse and another Octopus isnĀ“t too strange to me?

Let's skip the Octopus question to maintain thread momentum. We can come back to it later, or maybe one of our viewers will have the answer.

I'm behind on work, so I'd like to pass the torch. Who wants to ask the next question?

Just a theory........suppose Paul loves music, suppose he loves Pink Floyd, one of the founding members is Syd Barrett, suppose Paul loves his song "Octopus"...............very speculative,I know...... :)

Just another theory by me.... Mr. Allen has a submarine and (what I heard) on the buttom of Octopus a glass to watch the underwater world. So, he likes to watch the underwater world? Perhaps he likes Octopus fishes?

Or...the overhangs of the bridge looks for me like arms....(arms of a Octopus, maybe?)

All things are just a guess.

The "L" is the initial of its former owner's name, which was part of the Belgian Royalty, who unfortuanlty past away some years ago... The yacht today is called "White Cloud" ...

Nice to meet you also, Medrascal, in this forum...

Your answer is almost correct: the L stands for Lignac. The former (late)owner is not of Belgian royalty, but he is a dutchman, who more or less acquired a french title : Prince de Lignac. By the way, his own last name also began with an L........if you can read dutch, he published a very interesting book about his life, but also on how to run a megayacht professionally! Very interesting literature.

Anyway : it is your turn !

This is probably a pretty easy question
What is the largest ALL-aluminum private motor yacht in the world?
