According to measurements in Google Earth, 161 mtr, so, must be her...
In another spot they seem to be building a yacht of 100 + mtr's from scratch;
you can see this on a shipbuilding site in dubai.
the maersk container vessel across dubai is more than 300 meters. Dubai port is a major dept water port. with a loa of 160 m m/y "dubai" will have hard time even finding a berth in most commercial harbours.
At what stage in the construction of this vessel would the engines be installed. I'm assuming that they must already be in, for how could they possibly be installed once the superstructure was in place?

This cannot be, since no 9000 HP engine has yet been built.
The Most Powerful Diesel Engine in the World!
The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine is the most powerful and most efficient prime-mover in the world today. The Aioi Works of Japan's Diesel United, Ltd built the first engines and is where some of these pictures were taken.
It is available in 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. Ship owners like a single engine/single propeller design and the new generation of larger container ships needed a bigger engine to propel them.
The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters) for the fourteen cylinder version.
Some facts on the 14 cylinder version:
Total engine weight: 2300 tons (The crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons.)
Length: 89 feet
Height: 44 feet
Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm
Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm
Fuel consumption at maximum power is 0.278 lbs per hp per hour (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption). Fuel consumption at maximum economy is 0.260 lbs/hp/hour. At maximum economy the engine exceeds 50% thermal efficiency. That is, more than 50% of the energy in the fuel in converted to motion.
For comparison, most automotive and small aircraft engines have BSFC figures in the 0.40-0.60 lbs/hp/hr range and 25-30% thermal efficiency range.
Even at its most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour.
most powerful engine in largest containership
This engine is build for and used in the new series of container ships Maersk is taking into service. The first ship "Emma Maersk", 397 meters long, already on her way to join the Europe Far East service. There will be 11 more ships of the same size coming into service in the next years. She can accommodate over 11000 by 20' containers and has a service speed of 24 + knots. She has a dwt of 115.700 and can take 22 rows of containers. This is 4 more rows compared to other ships build so far.
MTU make engines upto 12,203hp for yachts. Need to check out their site.
I'm guessing that Dubai has either 20V 1163 TB73L which are rated at 8716hp or 20V 1163 TB 93 which are rated at 9923hp. (Carinthia 7 has 4 of the latter engines as well)
If you would read your own post, the output per cylinder is 7780hp.
The facts given for the 14 cylinder version state maximum power is 108,920hp.
A lot more than 9000hp.
So any news on when Dubai would be sailing?...and Tanteruus, what is that website that you are talking about...could you post a link or something, i would like to visit it.

what type of starter motor do they use on those huuuge 14 cylinder diesels?
Yacht has had major issues, but seems to be back on track. After ripping out what the German yard had completed prior to its shipment to Dubai they refitted with local skill which is believed to be a mistake. German yacht builders are quite good at what they do so ripping it out is a mystery. Rumor is that it lost a shaft/rudder on first sea trial. Have seen it on a recent holiday I can confirm it is huge. Shame it is unlikely to ever leave the gulf and any one else can see it.
