From and e-mail of one of the crew newspapers-A casting agency in Los Angeles is looking for yachties for a new reality TV series called “Below Deck.” They can’t release any details about the producer or the network, but Gladys at ****** Casting (+1 ***-***-**** ext. 309) assures us it’s legit. Auditions are being held via Skype for the following paid positions: captain, mate, chef, stew, engineer and deckhand. Application deadline is Aug. 11; the show will tape for six weeks in September and October.
    This should be pretty interesting!

It sounds like a nautical version of "Upstairs, Downstairs".:D. Presumably it won't be as stuffy as normal PBS fare.

Living it is one thing, but watching it? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Deadliest Catch it won't be. Sounds like a boat version of Housewives of....

    Hi,

    A TV Show ah?

What about one called "As the Sheets Stiffen" - This would have an appeal to blowboaters and stink potters together and could replicate the real life shenanigans above and below deck.

If catfights and fake breasts are involved, it might be worth a look.:D There isn't anything real about any of those housewives.

There's not much real in Hollywood at all, so I doubt this show will be much like our reality.

I thought they were filming in April & May. When was this previous post written?? Or maybe that was for the crew, & now it's different for the passengers... ?

It looks like they are trying to keep it real...

+1 regarding the bad publicity...as far as "keeping it real", real usually does not sell ratings, so I'm pretty sure it will be a producers or newbies version of real which will reflect badly on all.

I remember being forwarded a you tube video link a few years ago, filmed by crew on a popular charter yacht titled "life in the day of a yachtie" or something like that. Of course the breakfast shot was the crew mess loaded with liquor bottles, everyone enjoying a cocktail to get the day started, followed by use (abuse) of the yacht and all its facilities, generally in bad form.

I think what happens (or does not) on board, should stay on board and I'd rather not be guilty by association.

    my 2 cents

Then again, there is real and there is real. I knew of one captain who was found by the owner sprawled, passed out in the cockpit surrounded by empty bottles of the bosses best booze. I'm sure that would sell in Hollywood. There are crews and then there are crews.

They are filming right now on St. Maarten. I was dayworking on that particular yacht. Met the crew and the production company. They all are very nice people. :)
