I have always believed that the message is more important than the messenger.

Just read the CG statements and forget the rest if it bothers you.

I hope you don't mean the one who "compared it to driving a Ferrari through a school zone". The old pearl "Take things from their source" still applies today. Again though, you and I aren't far off on what we feel happened and should happen (negligent or reckless behavior resulting in a horrible tragedy / better training and policies and some heads rolling). We just differ on how that should be brought about and you're more down on the CG (maybe with good reason) than I am.

    NTSB Report has been released:

    http://www.ntsb.gov/doclib/reports/2011/MAB1102.pdf

    PROBABLE CAUSE
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause of the collision between the CG 33118 and the Sea Ray was the failure of the CG 33118 crew to see and avoid the Sea Ray because of the excessive speed at which the coxswain operated the CG 33118, given the prevailing darkness, background lighting, and high vessel density and the U.S. Coast Guard's lack of effective oversight of its small boat operations both nationally and at Coast Guard Station San Diego.

    Hi,

The PDF you linked to refers to an accident between a tour boat and a Coastie RIB in Charleston not anything in SD.

Wow! That short video gives a pretty clear indication of speed and conditions.
