Natalie ex Alice No, she is/was a motoryacht. Much smaller than Haida (or Sarina as I knew her) but if anything she had nicer lines. Regards Bee
Nero/Athena Brian; Glad to hear you say something about the similarities of Nero and Athena. I though the same thing myself. Nero would look better if it had some overhang from the roof over the bridge area I think. Maybe some on the next deck down too. Nero just has a kinda unfinished look to her the way she is IMHO. I'm a big fan of the Athena and am building a model of her from the pictures on this forum. If I could get the dimensions and some deck plans I'd like to model the Nero too but don't find much available on her yet. Pete
Well there is no dedicated "Haida G" thread on the website it seems so instead of creatingone I thought she could appropriately fit into this thread. Talking about Haida G, She is on the selling market for 23-Million Euros. and just recently she has reached her 80th birthday, delivered in 1929!
"Nero" has won the Show Boats award for Best Motoryacht over 75-meters and with that she is also on sale for 75-Million Euros!
Anyone has recent photos of the beautiful "Nero"? Here are a few that I found on FlickR of her in the Azores transiting from the Caribbean in 2009. A few nice close ups there... http://www.flickr.com/photos/13686839@N07/sets/72157616996517409/with/3458710545/
I think it would be appropriate to add a nice pic I found of her main tender, her Classic Limo... http://www.flickr.com/photos/garywilliams/3958304452/sizes/l/in/set-72157623462442324/
Why is "Nero" as beautiful as she is? Is it a personal thing? Is it her shiny black flared hull, her yellow 'funnel', her double masts? Her sumptuous woody interior? Modelled after J.P Morgan's twentieth century yachts make her nostalgic? Tell me what you think? There are somethings about Nero that I cannot get over, she is perfectly beautiful, what do you think?
I'd argue that Thermopylae was more beautiful than Cutty Sark, but I'd struggle to find aptly descriptive words to back my argument up. Both are beautiful examples of their type, but my aesthetic taste prefers one over t'other. Perhaps in that case its rather pointless to even attempt to describe a subjective and deeply emotional response to a combination of shapes and proportions that differ almost imperceptibly from one vessel to the other. Nero is also a very attractive rendition of a 'type', her combination of shapes and proportions are particularly pleasing to the eye, beautiful indeed, but having thought about what you asked, to me shes beautiful only because the type she represents is beautiful. There is another of her type I find more beautiful still.
Apparently the "Golden Lion" has been relauched after extensive refit. She was built in 1937 and is a 3-masted schooner. The refit has now brought her up to current standards. As much as possible she has been repurposed to her original splendour.
The largest J-class to be launched has been launched and is currently up for sale...Of course I am speaking of "Lionheart"...

I have also got the Classic bug recently. She was built in Stockholm in 1931 and a newer Riva Crusader V8 is giving her more than sufficient power and speed. Good fun!
There is a boat in Noank CT that resembles the tender off of Nero. Anyone know if this design has been copied and manufactured by another company?
Nero Wooden Tender The Wooden Tender. I saw what appeared to be a replica of it docked in CT. Same Cabin Top, Same Helm Position, same everything. The only difference was that someone added a teak swim platform.
