How does one become a surveyor. I know that there are courses available through SAMS but what formal education is there? It almost seems that if you have been in the industry and pay your dues to the right organizations you can call yourself a surveyor.
I believe that the Chapman School in Florida has a well respected, recognized training course for prospective surveyors. That would be a place to start. Then an apprenticeship with a working surveyor would perhaps come next.
There are a few quality distance learning courses available - http://www.lloydsmaritimeacademy.co...4620/diploma-in-marine-surveying/overview.htm and there a couple of others too. Ultimately though its down to experience.
