I am buying a yacht. Looking at regs for what have to be on the boat, I see I am suppose to have a copy of the Rules of the Road. When I google it or look at Amazon, it seems there are many copies and condensed versions. What copy should I get?

Indeed, but I have to start somewhere.

I will be taking some boating courses and probably even some of the advanced courses later but need a place to start for now.

    Hi there,

    Congrats on your purchase!

Try contacting: National Hydrographic Office at The Hydrographic Survey unit of The Royal Navy of Oman, they issue "Oman Maritime Handbook" and all the other material you will need.

Enjoy your time on the water.

    Alf

P.S.: Chapmans will also be very helpful on your boat, the major difference you will find will be in "Aids to Navigation" light colors, you are in "Area A" which will have Green lights to your starboard side while returning, unlike "Area B" which follows the common rule "Red-Right-Returning". Cheers!

Yes on US flagged boats over 12m you need a copy of the ROR. Not sure about Foreign flagged... Rules vary greatly by country so check your local requirements

Most simplified cards type rules satisfy the requirement, I also keep a PDF Copy of the official USCG booklet on my laptop just in case...
