ac unit won't switch between cool and heat it stays on cool even when heat is called for .Is there a switch that reverses the unit? The unit seems to stop to switch to heat but still blows cold.

    George,

There is a solenoid valve in the freon high side, near the compressor, that is known to stick. Tap it with a plastic hammer or screwdriver handle while you call for heat. That valve reverses the freon flow through the condenser and evaporator causing the heat to be removed from the sea water and put into the airflow.

I have also found on PassPort controllers the the operation mode got switched to cool only.
On Passport & SMX controllers, have found bad heat relays.
Usually followed with bad wire coils on the reversing valve.

You should hear a click before the compressor kicks on. If you're into things like this, put a Vac voltmeter across the reversing coil and make sure it gets a charge in heat mode. Work backwards from there if no joy, it's the valve if you do have Vac.

Is it a little late to worry about heat????

    George,

We are back up for the summer (if it ever comes). I think Joel is going to plan a brunch.

See you soon, and stay warm.
