Carl’s photo @ 157 is actually from 2012 or at the height of her glory. You might remember post #40 here was taken in late April 2014… the workers had at this time revolted and the canvas had already begun to tatter.
I spoke with the Port Authority President last month. He has no explanation, as the Google image was a surprise to him also.
Privilege One P430, the ‘carcass’ or ‘sarcophagus’ as it is known locally, was ordered to be removed by June 30 2024. The owner, Marine Goddess Srl. and its Serian/Nigerian owner has yet to commence the 6-month process to evacuate the vessel. It will be interesting to see her fate that may be revealed in the next 3 months. This might involve a torch.
Marine Goddess purchased the vessel in 2018 and has not spent a dime in storage of repair since then. In 2021 the owner of the Shipyard pumped, drilled, and drained the ship which had been open to the elements since 2013. All ports and hatches were sealed and several tons of rust were scraped and removed from the flaking decks. That has been the only work on the vessel in over a decade.
The actual owner of the P430 (in-build) purchased the 85m Blohm + Voss 'Grand Ocean' (ex- Golden Odyssey) in 2018, and it too has sat on the hard ground (Spanopoulos, Perama) barely attended to for 6yrs. Within a couple months he also bought a 50m Miss Tor another project. He completed the re-fit on the Miss Tor and has been using form his personal pleasurer. The owner and the Miss Tor ran afoul in late July while anchored off of Mykonos: https://globalfraudwatch.org/nidal-...olice-in-mykonos-2-arrested-narcotics-seized/
This past week the Port Authority granted an 18-month lease extension. The P430 Hull or “Sarcophagus”: as it has become known to the locals will be removed, or destroyed by the expiration of this latest concession. The owner was forced to post a cash bond to cover the cost of demolition if not removed by the start of 2027. TANKOA has taken concession of part of the property. Their plan is to build 50m to 70m hulls and barge these up to Genoa for completing & outfitting. It remains a landlocked property, without dedicated launch facility. The first TANKOA hull is scheduled for departure this month. Let’s see how this works. Even with the massive expanse of warehouse/sheds, TANKOA still finds itself constructing tents to build these hulls. Which raises the question; ‘what’s the point of being there?’ Tent 1 of 3 planned is now operational.
As for the Sarcophagus, construction halted December 2013. In 2021 the full hull was pumped and drained, and most ports were sealed. Additionally, 3 tons of oxidation was removed from side decks. Interesting note: The owner also bought the 1990 Blohm & Voss 80m GRAND OCEAN she too has been laid-up (Spanopoulos, Perama) since purchase in 2018.
