Opening Day: 2024 Monaco Yacht Show

  1. First Day Of 2024 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS)
    The 2024 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) got under way today (25th of September 2024) opening to patrons with dockwalking in mind or those scouting for their potential superyacht purchase. MYS typically attracts some of the largest superyachts in the world and while one or two in that category will be in the harbour docked many will be at anchor in the bay. The largest superyacht that was earmarked early for the show was to have been the brand new 122-meter Lurssen "Kismet". However, a last minute listing for the 123.2-meter Lurssen "Golden Odyssey" seen here taking a berth position next to Kismet but making her officially the largest superyacht in show for 2024. Besides the brokerage side of the business there are new announcements made on the opening day and one of those types of announcements concerns new designs.
  2. Icon Yachts has announced at the show which design firm has been selected to pen the interior of the 70-meter Project 'Master' conversion project. Winch Design has been tapped to bring to life the interiors of this vessel. Back at the 2021 MYS Icon Yachts announced they were undertaking this conversion and by 2022 the offshore support vessel arrived in The Netherlands for her conversion. Icon are no strangers to these conversions as they most notably converted 68.2-meter yacht "Ragnar" completing that in 2020. Espen Oeino is also part of the project which will see it being extended to reach its final 70-meter LOA.
  3. The original interiors have been ripped-out already giving way to the future Winch interiors. Those interiors will be earthy, neutral but sophisticated which is typical of this Studio. Here is a look at one of the salon schemes. One with a homely aesthetic inviting you to utilize the space and not view it as an impractical statement room. Large modern full-height glazing will be installed on the sides allowing great views out and improving the natural lighting into the social space.
  4. Onboard she will carry 12 guests in 6 cabins. The master suite will be 140 square meters making it comfortably the largest suite onboard. The master bath will also be particularly large with large free-standing tub and floor-mounted fixture. The bathroom too will be benefitting from oversized floor-to-veiling glazing. The main deck will actually be home to the guest suites with a pair of VIP-level cabins and three twin-category rooms. Crew of 19 will be on the lower deck in the hull.
  5. Another announcement at the show was from Feadship showcasing their yearly new design/concept. This year it is called Concept C, an electric fuel-cell superyacht. Envisioned to be 75-meters in length the concept's length was chosen to help commemorate the builders 75th Diamond Anniversary. The name C refers to the chemical element Carbon which is the basis for forming diamonds. The design and interiors reflect qualities a refined diamond presents. "There’s nothing rough about this diamond in Feadship’s concept collection", says Feadship. "As with all Feadship concept yachts, C is completely researched and buildable."
  6. Although a concept, the yacht is designed to be built. In-line contra-rotating propellers are to be installed helping make her theoretically 30% more efficient than a 75-meter with conventional shaft and rudder arrangement. This in-line idea is an evolution from the Breathe concept first proposed in 2010. A similar system was installed on Feadship "Savannah" launched in 2015 and has proven itself over thousands of open ocean miles. This highly efficient system of a centerline propeller and an azimuthing thruster behind allowed De Voogt’s naval architects to fashion a hull shape with an optimized, upswept after body for less turbulence and a quieter wake. Both the centerline propeller and thruster are electric and draw power from an efficient DC electrical grid supplied entirely by fuel cells directly running on methanol produced from renewable source.
  7. Onboard there is a 6 cabin layout. The primary stateroom with adjoining bath and dressing room and sitting room with internal private stairs to owner’s office on main deck below are imagined. Five double guest staterooms with en suites of which two can be combined to become a full-beam VIP. The Captain has their own captain’s cabin, six officers in three double cabins, twelve crew in six double cabins on lower deck plus captain’s office, ship’s office, navigation room and virtual command center.
  8. Heesen did hint at a new design a few weeks ago that they said they would announce at the MYS and as expected that announcement was made. It the the 62-meter 'Monte Carlo' project. The exterior is by Harrison Eidsgaard with Van Oosanen on the Naval Architecture. The internal volume has been estimated at 1,340 GT helped by her impressive 11.5-meter beam. Accommodation would be for as many as 14 in 6 cabins. The guest suites are located between the main and lower decks are are comprised of a mix of guest doubles and VIP-category suites. The owner has an upper deck enclave to themselves. Twin MTU engines will run her to 16-knots while giving a 4,500 nautical mile range at cruising speeds. Hybrid propulsion has been factored with space devoted to large battery banks along with tank space for fuel-cell conversion in the future.
  9. Some of her amenities include a glassed 23 square-meter pool on the transom. Fold down bulwarks are also available to provide an even more expanded stern region. There isn't the traditional beach club that you would expect on a 62-meter but it takes the open-air beach club idea from the smaller 40 to 50-meter vessels and incorporates in cascading fashion down to the swim platform. However, there still are gym, sauna, juice bar and hammam facilities available. A jacuzzi is on the fore deck forward of the owner's residence.
  10. While not an announcement the brand new Columbus Superyacht "Anjelif" is on display. The 50-meter is a hybrid yacht using a pair of 100kW electric motors that can run the vessel to a speed of 9-knots but her main engine package are twin 1,939kW MTUs capable of 20-knot speeds. Dialed back to 12-knots the yacht can make 3,000 nautical miles.
  11. On the interior you will find a warm and soothing palette which uses materials like Canaletto Walnut, Oak, muted rose gold and Oyster-shell finish on a dining table. At 50-meters she keeps her internal volume right below the 500 GT threshold coming in at 499. Four double cabins are for the guests and are located on the lower deck and the owner has a full-beam master suite on the main deck. 11 crew are accommodated across 7 cabins.
  12. Special features onboard include a Hammam, Sauna, a pool on the aft main deck, touch-and-go helipad/open-air cinema. Copious sun lounging and relaxing spaces on the fore deck, sun deck and aft deck areas. The owner has a fixed balcony which has become almost a rare feature. More recently balconies either slide out or fold down requiring crew to operate sometimes. The transom also features fold down wings and a transformer giving versatility to the space.
  13. Royal Huisman's world's largest sportfish "Special One" is at the Monaco Yacht Show but to showcase its sustainable HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) capabilities. "We applied our most radical naval architecture ever on this hull, resulting in dramatic lower resistance and, consequently, reduced fuel consumption," said Bart Bouwhuis, Vripack's co-creative director. "However we were also very aware that no matter what, the twin V20 MAN 4500kW drive train – which propels this yacht to over 32-knots – and her twin Zenoro 180 kW generators will always burn a substantial amount of fuel. We knew of this 'new fuel' and started our research."
  14. A new yacht brand has made its appearance at the 2024 MYS. It is called GX Superyachts and will be building a wide range of aluminium-based superyachts from 24 to 56-meters -the first of which is a 42-meter called GX42 RPH is already under construction, starting build on July 1, 2024-. "Each yacht in our GX Superyacht range is equipped with our innovative hybrid propulsion system, allowing for both efficient electric cruising and powerful diesel performance when needed," explained Chief Commercial Officer, Luca Raumland. "At 6-knots in electric mode, these yachts can achieve an incredible range of up to 100 nautical miles. In diesel mode, they can cross the Atlantic at 12-knots, while the max range is 11571 nautical miles at 6-knots.
