Southern Wind Launches First SW96 "Sorceress"

The first unit in the new SW96 mini series has been launched in South Africa. This is where the Southern Wind shipyard is located. The yacht was launched for an avid yachtsman who named the yacht "Sorceress". They are expected to have the yacht compete in races and in fact Sorceress is carded to race in the 2017 Maxi Yacht Rolex Race. She is also expected to be put on display at this year's Monaco Yacht Show (MYS).

The design is by Farr Yacht Design in collaboration with Nauta. The owner is not new to yachting has they already own an 80-foot carbon sail yacht but they really just wanted to step up to a larger yacht. At 96.1-feet this should fit the bill for now offering the ability to coastal cruise, race or bluewater and oceanic cruising. To assist in this, the yacht has a lifting keel system which can easily take her draft from 11-feet to nearly 18-feet. A four cabin layout is onboard for the owner and guests. Three cabins are situated aft in the hull while a full beam master suite is forward. The second hull in this new SW96 mini series is currently under construction and is expected to be launched in early 2018.
