Renderings have been unveiled for a new kind of chase boat for the America's Cup Emirates Team New Zealand. The special facet about this new craft that is currently under active development is that it will be hydrogen powered. The team is looking to have it ready for the sailing of the 37th America’s Cup in partnership with AFCryo. AFCryo is a company in New Zealand that specializes in composite cryostats for the cryogenic and superconducting industries.

Below is a better look at the positioning of the essential equipment that makes the hydrogen/fuel-cell technology work. Emirates Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton said, "It is our hope that we can make a seismic shift into hydrogen power and an emission free statement for the industry. This initiative is not without risk as we have very specific operating criteria within the team and the America’s Cup, so it is not a small undertaking". A foiling catamaran hydrogen powered support boat is the way they see the future of America's Cup team chase boats and support vessels. Should this technology work well with Emirates Team New Zealand's endeavours it could be even mandated to other teams. Elements of the hydrogen innovation will also be assessed and developed into how they can potentially be utilized in the functions of the next generation of AC75’s also.
