To the latest post, the biggest Fleming makes is a 78, but my next boat is still a Fleming. Can't speak highly enough of the people and the boats.
Represent an owner with a new build by Marlow...overall disappointed with the quality of the boat and the attention from the yard to service obvious warranty issues has been lackluster at best and overall experience has been disheartening ....would have expected much more from all the self proclaimed hype they give themselves...look into another builder.
You determine what to expect based on self proclaimed hype? I prefer to look at litigation. Sorry another owner has experienced that. What size boat was it?
Capt. Irish, I am wondering what boat you decided to get? My wife and I have been looking for our first boat and when we seen the Marlow's at the Maimi boat show we were impressed. We are considering a used 61e or 66e, we visited the Marlow dealer in FL this past week and were impressed by both boats. I can not say enough about the staff there. (Eric) Our broker was amazing. We own a dealership for over 15 years and NOT one Manufacture was perfect, they all had issues some major some minor. This case was in 2011 I am sure the issues have been resolved. I am going to visit the Fleming Dealer in MD Wednesday, knowing there are few on the market.
100% Correct. Having said that, when talking of Marlow and Fleming, chalk and cheese spring to mind. That aside, if you don't mind me asking, am I right in recognizing the Florence Cathedral in the background of your avatar? If so, you're obviously a man of taste, when it comes to places to visit! Unless there's a replica in the US that I'm not aware of...?
Mapism, which one do you own? And yes, that you are correct that picture was taken in Florence. My wife and I sent a couple weeks traveling in Italy from Venice to Pompii. I take it you are a Fleming fan. I'd like to know your experience with either boat. Selling boats for over 15 years, I also understand the Ford, Chevy, Dodge thinking.
Neither, actually. But I dealt with Outer Reef distribution here in Italy for a few years, and during that time (aside obviously from the whole ORY range) I've seen quite a few of their competitors models. And I also spoke with several owners, and/or former owners, who switched between them over time. Long story short, in that segment of boats Fleming are still at the top of the food chain, imho. Well, up to about 10 years ago, at least. I'm not up to speed on more recent production, but as I understand you're not considering a new build, right? ORYs were not bad either, by the way - even if not up to Fleming construction quality. Anyway, if any Marlow really ticks all your boxes, my strong suggestion has to be to pick one still owned by a first and very fastidious owner. Someone who already spent a substantial amount of money, not only to set the boat straight but also for all the headache drugs required in the process. Oh, and also have the thing carefully scrutinized by the very best surveyor you can find. Which is always a good idea with any boat of course, but more so with builders not new to structural problems. All the best for your search!
If you trust anyone there, then you're making a mistake. All I can say is an extremely thorough survey and sea trial. Often the boats Marlow is reselling are boats never fully made right for the previous owners.
I'd like to hear more about why you feel as strong as you do about Marlow Boats and the Staff at Marlow Yacht Sales. my email is REMOVED
I can not remember any bad comments of anybody selling a Marlow boat. As these folks are full of smiles and can sell used taxis from New York. The better the sales person, Full of smiles, Pushing what ever they are trying to sell, becomes your best (honest) friends. So, skip this B S about Eric or any staff for Marlow boats. The better sales person will sell their virgin mother. Now, Can we separate this comment. It's not about most pukes trying to sell this brand, it's the brand. IE; I have a pristine Yugo. Only abandoned twice. Runs well around the (this) corner. Lets do lunch with your lovely wife. I can deliver in the color of her eyes.... Now that that ship is out of the way, contact your lawyer. Not your purchasing guy, the court room guy. Ask him how many court cases there has been against this builder? What models? What year builds? What issues? 2011??? there were more.. Ask YOUR broker, how many of this brand has quickly re-sold after purchase. Are you sure you want to purchase from a troubled builder? Nuff said??
Now, I'm not pushing Flemings, But they do need a look. Still not a great boat. But for the money, do-able. Please open a new thread and lets start a new forum to help you shop. 6 year old threads should lay dead. Can use some input; What are you; Dock queens or cruisers? Where to cruise? Experience? At night on a dock or hook? Guest count? Spoiled or involved: Crew count?
I chose to respond in private here rather than email, but if you've read this entire thread and still ask, doubt you're going to listen to anything.
"A bunch of red flags" is one of the best descriptions I can think of for just about anything on the internet. I neither see why nor how this place could stay immune to that...
