We are considering a Symbol 557 Motor Yacht with twin Cat 3196 mains as our next boat. We can't seem to find a lot of information about construction, fuel usage, and reliability. I checked on insurance and our agent said there was no 557 motor yacht listed for 1999. It seems to have the lines of there Pilothouse models but it is being listed as a Motor Yacht If anyone has information about this model and year or helping us sort out the errors in the listing, we would appreciate your sharing. Thanks
Can you tell me what boat you are looking at or send me the link directly. Many listings are just flat out wrong. Maybe I can help. I just purchased a 1999 557 (558) pilot house so I certainly won't be looking for another one any time soon For example my boat was listed with a 22' beam and as a 557 but the factory plaque has 558 on it and the beam is closer to 16' 9".
This sounds like the same boat (and listing on your boat) ! My listing also states 20' beam. I have a broker who is working on verifying the details but since it sounds like you just bought the same year and model as we are looking at, how do you like it and what can you tell me about fuel usage, handling in rough seas, ride, quality, etc?
I'll fill you in on what Is the boat listed on the web? Where is it currently? Can you send me a link to the boat you are looking at? Not sure if it's the same boat until I see it. I think the other models may have had different hulls. The 3196's should be kept under 2000 rpm. At that speed I cruise at about 17 knots. Burning about 38 gallons (19x2) per hour. My boat has stabilizers which probably cost a knot or so at that rpm.
I worked for Symbol Yachts as manager for many years, thanks for your feedback Symbol experience , If you have further question or service demand, I will do my best to serve you. My email is deleted.
