Over the past few weeks we've been bombarded by bots. To register, they need to answer a Captcha question. Over the years, I've kept these questions simple so new members don't get frustrated, but make them nautical in nature to weed out the people who don't have a sincere interest in our topic. Here are some sample questions and answers...

    Q. The crustaceans that stick to the underside of vessels are called? A. Barnacles
    Q. What was the name of the boat in Gilligan's Island? A. Minnow.
    Q. Mooring lines are tied to...? A. Cleats

Questions need to be difficult enough to weed out bots, but not humans. It's best if the questions don't have well-defined answers on the internet. Even better if the answer is crystal clear to boat-minded folks.

I need some good Q&As to battle the bots. Post 'em up!

That's a good 'return'! Might be tough for someone who has never navigated.

That would eliminate the funny ones like the kid asking about crossing oceans or fishing.

Gilligans / minnow would be challenging to younger folks and foreigners

This is good! Bots struggle with acronyms, especially if they aren't terms used by the masses.

This would likely be easy for a bot, even easier for humans hired to crack Captchas. A variation on this might work, such as the connection between what sank the Titanic and a salad? Iceberg lettuce.

This one might be tough for boating newbies, but it's an easy answer for bots. They search the internet for identical phrases and simply fill in the missing word.

If you want the bots to overheat, try…. “The best anchor is:______.”
