’s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands: Moonen yachts as we well now know have expanded their options to the potential client. This expansion has manifested itself the the creation of the Moonen 97 foot displacement model. Moonen is very confident in this new model and aptly boasts "2008 will be the year of the Moonen 97."

The Moonen 97' is really an evolutionary design that clearly has been born from the 86' and the 96' models. However, the main feature that will distinguish the 96' from the 97' foot is a long spacious fly-bridge and Sun-deck. On the Moonen 96' model there is a Raised Pilot House (RPH) in the place. This latest model has abolished this feature and gave way an airy fly-bridge.

An unmistakable clash in professional designers in René van der Velden and Diana Yacht Design (DYD), led to a beautiful and timeless model that is the Moonen 97'. The interior of the first two 97 foot long models will be tasked to Art-Line.

Technical wise, the new model will have a hull fashioned from steel while the superstructure will be done in aluminum. A pair of Caterpillar (CAT) marine engines will provide the horses needed to move the 97'. To ensure a smooth ride underway or at anchor, Zero-Speed stabilizers will be used.

Moonen stresses that when these two 97' models are constructed, they will not be identical twins serving to show that they will be higly customizable to meet their owner's demands. The first yacht of the series will feature a static bimini, 1 X tender crane, three-double staterooms and 1 X twin stateroom. The other, which is affectionately called Sofia, will have a movable bimini, 2 X tender cranes, 2 X twin staterooms and a bridge overhang.

Interior wise, Moonen planned not to take anything for granted and in conjunction with the owners and Art-Line have come up with a palette of materials. Cherry, Bamboo and Leather will pervade of both yachts but Wenge trim on the first model and Maple trim on the second (Sofia) will differentiate the interiors.

The Moonen 97 foot long displacement yacht model is a long distance cruiser while quelling the anxiety of persons wanting a medium sized or pocket sized yacht. According to Moonen, the 97' is the size yacht between the 72' model and the 124 foot model. The Moonen 97' will be built to comply with Lloyd’s classification and the MCA certification. The first Moonen 97 will be delivered in Spring of 2008 followed by the second (Sofia) in the Summer.

Nice looking design, I find that I have been seeing some designs of late from other builders that look very much like these Moonen's!
