Top speed on the 500 SSC with four of these behemoths is quoted at 60 mph. That’s flying in an express cruiser!

the evolution of outboards, when will it end ?
can remember a lil' donzi with a single 150merc hanging off the transom.....
as Buzz Lightyear said...."to infinity and beyond" or will impracticality and structural failure catch up to the mega sized outboard craze ?

    Pure SWAG here;

60 gph to make 600 hp

    60 x 4 = 240 gph
    24o gph / 60 mph = 4 mpg.

lets say quality fast cruise at 40 mph. Guessing, takes 400 hp each to make that speed with mother-in-law onboard.

    40 x 4 = 160 gph
    160 gph / 40 mph = still 4 mpg.

    Hummmmm?

Yep, except it's 6 of them not 4.
    Now that's scary.

Yeah, you fly right to the fuel dock. Where you spend hours smelling gas and refueling at 6 gallons per minute.

It's a day boat CC, hardly a long range cruiser. A wham-bam, thank you Mam kinda machine. Would spend a very happy day out on the water fishing off that.

    Oh Sheet...
    6 x 30 GPH??
    180 GPH is scary...
I would be very poorly guessing what speed he cruises at. Has to be scary also.

These many-multy engine packages do make me cringe sometimes.
I also have to wonder about the sanity of the market that purchases this stuff.
How often can you safely use that much horse power?

Unfortunately they use it way to often. Every weekend these multi outboard boats fly by my house at very high speeds after spending all day in lake boca drinking adult beverages. Four common themes with them: high speed, loud music, twerking half naked girls and a guy peeing of the back. Yeah another weekend in sf.

I had one of these boats fly by me, way too close in GA when running a yacht down. He ended up at the same marina in St. Augustine. Then had to wait there for a Mercury mechanic, because his joystick stopped functioning and he didn't know how to run/dock the boat without the joystick!!!!! scary times we live in.

    Absolutely.
I heard quite a few owners of IPS powered boats calling the marina and ask to send ribs to push them in their berth, because the joystick packed up and they declared themselves unable to maneuver.
