Zero experience here. Most of those tasks are covered in some manner by software suites for small businesses. The one exception is the "technical" requirement. Don't be surprised if you need something different for that application. Does your idea of technical include CAD drawings?

I thought I had seen mention somewhere of a software package just for yacht management. I have experience with MS Access, which did not leave me with a warm feeling for that platform. But for a turn-key application, it may very well be the best fit available.

As for the CAD view function, very interesting that they did include that. Even for marking up!

I agree with Alan, charter bookings should be pretty easy to add onto the Access system. But even if they did not want to do this, there are plenty of other sources for Access applications. So you could still keep everything in Access.

    Idea Software

Already got a Demo Version of this software.
Collected it at the Düsseldorf Boat Show in germany in january.
This is not what i am looking for.
The Software must be able to work with a fleet of around 300 ships.

Also must be network compatible and be able to handle a spare part stock of
    20 Million $.
We did not speak about small island ( one yacht ) solutions.
But many thanks for your cooperation.

If this operation is centralized (all the software running in the same building), not so difficult to do. Most databases, even little Access, can handle that. But if your operation is distributed, offices in different countries, etc., that is another matter. Then you will likely want an internet based client/server system. Don't know if there is any existing yacht management system that handles that.

    Yacht / Ship Management Software

    Thanks Kelly.
It will be centralized in one office building.
I think with a remote login system we will be able to connect each Ship in the system.
Another point of view is that the new system has the possibility to intergate the current databases in the new system. Otherwise we have to feed more than 4500 Crew per key in the new system and that is much work ;)
I searched the Net also for stand alone systems for the different management
solutions but i think it is not the right way because every system must be able to share data with the other programs.

So please keep your eyes open.
What did Passenger Ship Companies use ? They must have the software.

Yeah, data transfer is always a pain. Very good thought on looking into what the big commercial fleets use :) . My guess is that your "handle a spare part stock of 20 Million $" task will be the most daunting. Which is basically inventory, with procurement and distribution added. That is the sort of load that could drive you away from the "consumer" platforms like Access.

We just installed a program from Techman software to organize all of our equiptment, spares, maintenance schedules, monthly ISM reports etc. It is still a work in progress so I can't really give you an honest evaluation. It was fairly inexpensive as far as Mega yacht $ goes - about $8,000 for the initial program. The company also does management programs and is based in Antibes, France. Dermot Dreux was the company rep who installed our program. His # 33 493 345 400 or <dermot@techmansoftware.com>. Nice guy - give him a call. Good luck Tom Dornhofer - M/Y Katharine

Its pretty simple stuff. I have a PHP system and a microsoft .net system for remote management and updating with user authentication and log ins.

I;ll put up a demo shortly. A; is a flash interface that calls via PHP from a sql database. the individual "yacht" or user can upload all of its data via password protected G.U.I. and the server automatically updates the database. When viewed on line the information is up to date and can only be modified by authorized personnel. B; is the same in VB and microsoft.net except that is has a much stronger encoding and allows for limiting the time on line and keeps track of access via a randomly generated accesss password. This software was created for a paid access gaming system but can be used for anything.

    Hi there,
I am not aware of a management system exclusive to mega yachts, but I am sure you should be able to use one of the several intergrated management systems which are available for the commercial shipping. They all come in modules which you can pick and choose to tailor make to your requirements.
    Here some sites:
    http://www.Consultas.no ( Norwegian)
    http://www.avecs.net ( German)
    http://www.ulysses-systems.com (UK)

I hope this is of help.
