I want to be an Engineer aboard superyachts (Chief Engineer is the end goal), would it be better to get a degree in Marine Transportation or Marine Engineering Technology? To me Marine Transportation sounds like its mostly stuff that's "above deck" and Marine Engineering Tech is below. If I wanted to be a Chief engineer I would probably want to do marine engineering technology right? I'll be applying to California Maritime Academy and these are the pages that discusses each majors.

    Marine Enigeering Tech:

    Marine Transportation:

    Thanks!

The transport one is aimed at Deck Officers as it clearly states you will if you graduate successfully leave with a 3rd Mate unlimited ticket, the Engineering one will leave you with 3rd Assistant Engineer so if you want to be an engineer you can hopefully figure out which one you need.
