Hi Ovy and welcome! Your profile says you're a marine engineer. Commercial? Private? Onboard, designer? Fill us in and educate us. Judy
Hi All and welcome to Yachtforums. Carl. The difference between a Florida mosquito and a Canadian one is night and day. One of the usual questions asked during Canadian citizenship exams is: What takes on more fuel, a 747 or a Canadian mosquito? The correct answer is that the Canadian mosquito takes on more fuel. Rocks on the highways here have nothing to do with a lack of road maintenance, we put the rocks on the road to make it more difficult for the mosquitoes to land.
Codger, Carl failed to mention our particularly truly nasty bugs--most tremble at the mere mention of their name--'Noseeums', which is a Seminole word for "flying teeth". These little nasties (Culicoides furens) are almost invisible and it's not their bite in particular that hurts, it is the sensation that a person experiences when the acids in their bodily fluids (True) affect your skin. The 'Aliens' movie creatures were allegedly modeled on our bugs as a result. Your Northern mosquitos got nothin' on our local little monsters.
The things that one learns here. Birdseye, ovy and Alaskaharbor. Amazing the things that one can learn here. Culicoides furens. I always thought that the invisible bites were just the final attempts of the ghosts of Tax Collectors. Now I know better.
Loren having been bite by their mesquitos and bothered by your bugs I would rather stay here in Maryland but if I have to make a choice I'll take your bugs over their mesquites. No contest in my opinon.
Well I am training to be a marine engineer in the entertainment side, eg: Satellite systems, TV/Internet Distribution systems, High performance integrated control systems, to control blinds, lights, tv heating etc in your home or yacht.. Very nice designs, we have a small system at work, it's so simple to use and is a lot of fun playing about with the light settings etc. What do you do?
ovy - Thanks for the additional information. You're in good company here as YachtForums has some experts in your areas of interest. Also in attendance are yacht brokers, captains, owners, designers, builders, writers, and just about every segment of the yachting world including entomologists and comedians. Can anyone think of a specialty not represented? Judy
It could be the entomologists are actually lurking and doing there research by studying those of us who participate. Just a suggestion surely not an observation.
