The launching of the 'new' Project X (formerly Project Z) has happened. The vessel is an 88-meter superyacht with design inside and out by Ken Freivokh. The yacht has had a storied life so far. Originally being started in Chile at Marco Yachts in 2007, the vessel has been a number of places over the last few years before it could be completed. From Chile she went to the U.S in Seattle and then across to Greece where she was finished at the Greek New Spanopoulos Group Shipyard. The below real image is by Konstantinos Papadopoulos.

Finally! Such a beautiful yacht! One of the better designs of recent imo.
Hopefully this one doesn't become a marina queen hahaha

Well the other Golden Yachts have generally been charter yachts.

Really interesting to see this one hit the water. I have seen this hull many times sitting in the yard in Seattle and wondering what the end game was for it.

The other hull was a feature of the NZ SY build scene for many years before being launched by AK Yachts as M/Y Victorious in Turkey last April.
Both hulls being completed within a year is an amazing coincidence given their history.

Some of the changes made from the initial design are interesting. Both vessels have bow helipads that were not present on the initial hulls. Both have had similar stern extensions added. Maybe there was some collaboration between yards on design in completing these vessels.

I wonder how many hoops the builders had to jump through to obtain Class Approval for the vessel? There were rumor's from both sources of challenges with tracing of hull material and galvanised piping problems in critical areas. Possibly something in Class Rules involving time from start of build helped and this explains why the vessels became viable projects at similar times.

I do like the final result in both cases. Neither show their history and have resulted in good looking vessels that we will hopefully continue to see travelling the world in their future.

Curious if all the machinery is original because if so, that is a damper having 20 year old engines to start.

Often these vessels end up as a mix and match of machinery depending on state of equipment, support available and validity of certification.
I have experience with one vessel that had a rumored deadline to be in the water and sea-trialed based on the 10 year validity of the engine certification. The Rolls Royce commissioning technicians were challenged as the systems were older than most of their experience covered. One commented that they should have sent the service crew, not startup.
There is often a massive amount of waste with these vessels, with brand new equipment and materials scrapped. Example - 30+ plasma screens in boxes binned to be replaced by LCD which then were outdated as project went on hold to then be replaced again.

She has an interior by Studio Massari, which is pretty cool. In fact Project X exterior by Ken Freivokh is also interesting from the standpoint we do not get many exteriors coming to life from this studio.

The exterior design looks unfinished to my eye, or better yet, lacking in polish as it has too many random shapes and 'textures' (depths?). It's as-if a design student created it for a school project, not a season professional. I do agree we don't get too many Freivokh designs, as they have done a few nice looking yachts and concept drawings, I just don't think this is one of them.

As for the interior, I've never heard of Massari and looking at their portfolio, I understand why...
