    The Golden Globe race started yesterday out of Les Sables d’Olonnes on the French Atlantic coast but it s not just another round the world race. No maxi trimarans. No foiling carbon fiber Imocas… No, these guys (and gals, the last winner was a woman) are taking the punishment up a couple of notches: the boats must be between 32 and 36’, similar in design to the boat of the original winner back in 1968 and using the technology available then. No GPS, no satcom, no computer, no autopilots, no routing. Solo… 9 months at sea.

    I bet this time it will be harder to put around the Atlantic and Brazil while making fake logs than what it was back in the 60s.
