$250-300 per barrel. WAKE UP America !!!

I went back looking for my original posting forecasting the $100 barrel oil by the end of 07 (missed it by one day!)
    HERE:
    http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/44257-post56.html
"I'm still betting we will see $100/barrel crude this year when Israel bombs those Iranian nuclear facilities by the end of the year...certainly during Bush's presidency??" 5/28/07

    http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/52925-post71.html
and then we reached that $100 figure on 1/02/08

The Perfect Storm, and drinking the kool-aide out of Wash DC

Now I have a more dire prediction, $250-300 per barrel by end of year 2008

What do you think really caused a one day increase of $11 per barrel last Fri?? I have to believe it was all of this 'saber rattling' about attacking Iran coming out of Wash DC last week during the AIPAC meetings. Both Israel and some US sources basically said it was inevitable.

Imagine what this action will do for oil prices and our economy.

And I imagine that Iran will have a few surprises for our troops in Iraq (like a bomb into the green zone), and will probably sink one or two loaded oil tankers there in the Gulf. What do you think the insurance people will tell the tanker owners about taking there ships into that Gulf....Goodbye middle east oil supply...hello depression around the world.

And this could really happen !!! Israel has said it must do this while Bush is still in office. Israel could start this military action, but they could not sustain it...that will be our role (in the guise of 'protecting' our ally Israel). THIS IS A VERY REAL PROBLEM !!! ...coming soon

    Lobbying for Iran war, etc
I live here in Washington DC, and currently we are experiencing a TV
ad blitz that subtle lobbies for an action against Iran, and it's not a
'negotiation action', its a military one. If the Iraq war was not
enough for you, here we go again with Iran
    .

Imagine what this action will do for oil prices and our economy....all
in support of a foreign country.

....excerpt....If this war with Iran does go ahead and Joe Q Public starts to
understand what General Oded Tira wrote in ynetnews the last day of
2006, then we’re going to see anti-semitism the likes of which we’ve
    never known before.

"President Bush lacks the political power to attack Iran. As an
American strike in Iran is essential for our existence, we must help
him pave the way by lobbying the Democratic Party (which is conducting
itself foolishly) and US newspaper editors. We need to do this in order
to turn the Iranian issue to a bipartisan one and unrelated to the Iraq
    failure.

We must turn to Hillary Clinton and other potential presidential
candidates in the Democratic Party so that they publicly support
immediate action by Bush against Iran. We should also approach European
countries so that they support American actions in Iran, so that Bush
will not be isolated in the international arena again.”

Israel doesn’t want to use its own nuclear weapons because it will get
wiped out in return. So it plans to use ours and endanger our soldiers
in Iraq in the process. To me, this is absolutely — ABSOLUTELY —
    unforgivable.

It will likely make it to the showroom, as the diesel in development for that will have broader application throughout the GM range.

To be fair, the other vehicles in that picture are not SUV's. They're full-size crew cab pickup trucks with caps/shells over the 8' cargo beds, with more in common with european "white vans" than with SUV's in terms of size and intended use.

I'm glad you made sure to specify "intended" because there are plenty of people who drive them as a daily commuter vehicle, just because they think it's cool to own a big ol' pick 'em up truck.

My family had a 1987 F-350 4x4 crew cab from new - long before the SUV and big pickup craze. There is something undeniably cool about piloting around 25' of hulking iron... though I suppose with today's fuel prices, that's hulking irony. We had good use for that truck, far beyond towing a 33' boat or loading all of our ski gear or camping gear up (though those were common for us to do). It was also a shop truck for a trucking company and garage, sometimes hauling complete engines as big as a Cummins KTA.

I agree that it's unfathomable to own a one-ton just as a playtoy as so many do.

yeah - driving 5 tons every day to work is plenty of fun he? :D

    just kidding ;)

the ironic thing about this image is this:
    the headline pronounces :
    "Audi erobert amerikanischen Kleinwagenmarkt"

what means nothing less than :
"Audi takes over american compact-car market"

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Took the Azimut up to Montreal for the Grand Prix this weekend.

Fueled at $5.15 when leaving the US in Mallets Bay Vermont last Wednesday and fuled back at the border at Rouses Point in NY for $6.05. I think it is still around $5.25 in the bay here today.

There's no reason that anything should be passing a properly equipped Smart car. Here's one that has only been partially equipped.

And.. there's another 150bhp in that engine.

Maybe we should "leapfrog" a couple of months and change the $5 to a $7?.

Here is an interesting Mini alternative that may be coming to NA soon, the Audi A1...

Fueled up Memorial Day for $4.999. Fueled today $5.599. 11% increase in 3 weeks and my bank wants to give me 2.something %APY. Ya gotta just laugh.

    Hi,

It hasn't changed mine as I was down there and had to come back but as I haven't refueled after getting here as yet I can't say how much the over all cost was.

I can however say I paid €1.42 ( $2.20)at Carrefour to fill up at the start and I paid €1.56 (2.42) when I re fueled in southern Germany. I saw €1.62
( $2.52)here as I left the highway here but wasn't sure if that was the top price or the normal price, I was more concerned with getting home safely as I only had about 800yds to go from the gas station.

The on board computer told me I was averaging 118 Kph or 72.67 MPH and 7.8 lt /100Km or 47.54 MPG per a US Gallon.

I just worked that out and have to say I have no more complaints about my car's performance except it's a bit slow on the uptake over 200 kmh

    I am driving a 2008 Audi A4 S Line 2 Lt Diesel ,6 Speed manual gearbox unit.

I had a 5 speed Passat before and think it was quicker except for the top end where it could only do about 235 kmh full out no load.

I will post a total fuel price later when I have it.

47.54MPG per US Gallon? That 7mpg better than the SMART car, better than my friend's Prius. Forget my Hyundai @ 30mpg. No typo?

    Hi,

My apologies to the readers I made a mistake in my calcs. I woke up this morning worrying about the numbers and running previous trips through my mind thinking that this car was very frugal on juice compared to others. This is what I worked out in the cool of the morning.

    On Board Computer says

    Average speed 118 kmh or 73.29 mph ( 118 divided by 1.61 = 73.29)

    Average consumption 7.8 Lt/100km or 7.8lt for 62.11 miles

    62.11 divided by 7.8 = 7.962 miles per litre.

    7.962 x 3.786 = 30.147

The true figure therefore is 30.147 mpg (US Gal) or 36.18 mpg (UK Gal) and not the number I posted before. I am surprised I have not had Audi people here wanting to take the car away.

Once again I apologize for the earlier post with the wrong numbers. I hope I am quick enough to stop anyone running to their dealers asking for one of these cars :)

    K1W1,
I was about to buy a new car this AM. Guess I'll keep my Sonata a little longer.;) Considering the price difference for diesel over 87 octane in this area that would equate to about 25 or 26 mpg (guesstimate not calculation) for a gas car. Still respectable though.
Truthfully, the magic number for me to buy a new car is 45mpg and that number will rise with the price of fuel. Auto mfgs. RU listening. If you want my 20K to 30K you need to be. My car can last another 5 years if you're not.
