This subject is a continuation from the original thread... $2.00 Gas?

Yes. I paid the equivalent of $5.17 per US Gallon yesterday.
Perhaps it's time to retire the $2.00 gas thread.

There is a bright side to increasing fuel costs. Went for a ride yesterday up to the Columbia Icefields. This is normally a beautiful but sometimes frustrating route. The usual mountain sheep, deer, elk, bears and other mobile slalom course flags which can make things interesting, were all present and accounted for. But not one motorhome or travel trailer crawling along at 40kph. We were probably just extremely fortunate since there were some of these vehicles parked in various places along the way but far fewer than would have been there in the past.
Not, of course, that I'd ever consider doing such a thing, but I was told that....
Riding, lights off, at night under a full moon with the moonlight reflecting off the snowcaps illuminating the way. Just doesn't get better than that.

Perhaps, we in North America, are starting to think a bit more about how we use gasoline.

    Thoughts?

this is just the time the green party starts with: "we've told you"

here in germany diesel has been much cheaper than gas, today i was puking my stomach - diesel and all sorts of gas for not less than 1.46 Euro per Liter which makes 5.52 USD per gallon.

i guess the first electric boats are on their way to the waters :D

but hearing that exxon did 30 billion(!) profit last year is making me wonder ...

err i just found a mistake in my calculation - that's 5.52 Euro per US Gallon - that makes 8.60 USD per Gallon - my fault

Quebec is getting ripped off more than the US, and NZ is getting ripped off more than Quebec. That's the old "So you think you've got it bad...." that the oil companies and OPEC love to hear. Nobody will do anything to stop them while they use the old "well it could always be worse" excuse for taking no action.

NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams did a segment on global fuel prices last night titled... "So you think you've got it bad?"

The Netherlands pays the equivalent of $9.52 a gallon!

Marine diesel in Stamford CT (as of last Saturday) is $6.35 per gal:eek:
I'm glad I stored my Bertram with full fuel tanks last fall!!

I've always said that we are lucky to pay what we do for fuel considering what other countries pay.

Fuel in Ft. Lauderdale by truck yesterday was $4.19/gal. I'll be taking about 14,000 gallons soon, so I'm watching prices keenly.

    CT Dave,
Boy did the oil companies love hearing that.
Now for a reality check. I used to captain a 51 Bertram. She held 1100 gals. That's $6,985 for a fill up. She burned 80gph. That's $508 per hour. From Greenwich you're about 6 hours to Newport (a nice day's cruise). That's about $3,048 each way before you've even bought lunch (Or you could do a lunch hop across the sound for about $1,000 plus food).
The average person you deal with during that trip will earn about $80 per day before taxes. :(

So who holds the destinction of being the most stupid nation on earth, the nation who allows their citizens to be ripped off the most and whose citizens put up with it.
Sorry, Netherlands. You're nice people, but so far it looks like you. It's lousy to be thought of collectively as that, but that is exactly how the oil companies and OPEC feel about you. Street hustlers would call you a mark. The oil companies call you customers.

These new fuel prices sure are bringing me a lot more inquiries:

    K1W1,
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I love the Dutch. In fact I love every nationality I've ever encountered. The point I'm making is that we're being played for fools with the "well it could always be worse" attitude. We need to get angry and do something about this situation. A few weeks ago truck drivers in New Jersey staged a job action bringing the roadways into NY to a standstill. The government heard that. The citizens, whether they be Dutch, German, American or whatever have to say in unison NO more. I don't know what the cure is, but this thread started as $2.00 Today I saw here $9.00 Air cars and conservation won't do it when we're blatantly told that there is no shortage. "They're" charging this because they can. There is no offense meant by me. Can't say that much for the oil companies.
