A new 49.65 meter aluminum hull was towed to Royal DeVries today for an American owner that's to be fitted with three gas turbines and water jets. This high speed yacht is expected to push upwards of 50 knots and will be launched in 2020. Looking fwd. to seeing this one run!
Perhaps I missed something, but lots of NVH, excessive fuel consunption, limited range, only possible in near perfect weather, what's the point of such a yacht? It will be more expensive, and because of the massive engines smaller on the inside than a "normal" yacht? Maybe such owners want to impress guests when they use it as a dayboat. Looking at similar vessels from the past....more difficult to sell and problematic Must have (an even more) massive depreciation...
Feadship suggests she is only a 30-knoter. Well 'only' compared to 50-knots. 3 MTU 16V 2000 M96s onboard.
That sounds much more likely as even AB with 3 MTU 16 V 2000 M96s on their 145' only gets 42 knots and a much lighter boat. 46 knots on their 140'. Triple M96s just aren't going to get to 50 knots on a boat that size.
