A couple of weeks ago we finally got back to our first national championship rally since February of last year. Between the slightly rusty skills and the too long unused cars, the race crews kept our recovery team busy over the weekend.

Looks good Kevin, I prefer this old G-style over the newer. My own 4x4 collection has grown a little this year...

Old or new, I'm just happy there are still proper, useful G-Wagen's being made to do work and explore the world, instead of spending more time being parked by valets, or sitting in traffic on Rodeo Drive.

Is that the same G that delivered me to the airport in Stockholm 13 years ago?

Still road-tripping in my 4R. It'll turn 6 on Wednesday and be just short of 220,000 kms.

Sadly, our '99, Burb#6 had to go, sold in March.
    Never went for the re-build/re-power.

I missed the barn doors that Burb 6 did not have.
Found a 2004 Yukno XL 2500 up in Charleston with the barn doors.
Lil 6L engine is surprising me.

    Anybody need a 3rd row seat/bench?
    Near new, Grey leather.
    From this '04 GMC.

I own a 2005 H2 Hummer and love it. This SUV has never let me down. Lots of room, lots of power and beautiful interior.

The new Ineos Grenadier was released to the public today. It's designed to take over from the old Land Cruiser, G-Wagon or Land Rover Defender before they went all soft and Luxo. https://ineosgrenadier.com/en/us/

Neat passion project that I've been following since the earliest concepts were released... but given the scarcity of Ineos dealerships around the world, it will forever remain an interesting footnote.

The X-REAS system on my Limited is showing signs of too many speed bumps. Looking to replace and lift but postponing bigger shoes unless I can find a Craigslist deal on 17" TRD rims with Nittos. An otherwise bullet-proof truck, the suspension on the Limited isn't as durable. The truck has only been off-road for 100 yards at a time. 86k on the clock.

Scanning the T4R forums, it seems Bilsteins are a popular choice. Would like to maintain the ride quality of the X-REAS which is Lexus-like, but the cost to replace the factory system is prohibitive.

@YachtForums that's kind of odd. I've never heard of the XREAS system failing on a truck so young. Usually it's the guys with 4th gen trucks with 200k+ miles looking to disable/delete their XREAS systems.

    That said...

    a) Good luck finding TRD wheels on Craigslist... maybe the south FL situation is different, but anywhere I've ever looked the TRD rims are entirely unavailable (they're the most sought after design, so nobody gives them up). The single instance I actually saw a set for sale, the seller was asking more for them than a brand new set of Methods. (Side note: the OEM tire size is also a tad too small once you've lifted the truck. They roll out on 265 width 32" diameter, but after lifting it takes 33" to better fill out the fender.) Also, spacers on the OEM wheels help the stance a bit too.

    b) the Bilstein 5100 series is the default, go-to set-up for 4Rs if you want the simplest 2-3" lift. 4 shocks plus 2 springs for the rear and you're good to go. Not sure what's involved with disabling/removing the XREAS though... I've never looked into the system since I don't have it.

Good info. Thanks Kevin! Went in for an oil change at the stealership and they came back with a litany list; serpentine belt, diff oil flush, various filters and notification the XREAS was leaking. I questioned it, so they showed me the undercarriage on the lift. Sure enough, two of the shocks are leaking. Bummer, but always wanted to lift the truck anyhow, or at the very least level it. The shocks haven't failed yet, but in time I may find an unleveled 4R in the driveway.

Belt: I'm over 140k miles and haven't changed mine yet. Unless it's showing signs of wear... meh... leave it.
Fluids: I did all of mine last summer at ~120-something thousand miles (both differentials, transfer case, and transmission)... maybe a bit overdue, given how much abuse my truck gets. The diffs and t-case I changed myself (very easy if you don't mind get your hands dirty), but left the transmission for my local garage (not stealership) because it's a tad more involved and can trigger a computer fault that needs resetting.
Filters: I'm meticulous with oil and air filters, but I neglect the cabin filter occasionally.. my bad. Should check when I last did that one. LOL Probably would help my allergies. Again, easy to do without paying the dealership.

In 6 years and 230,000 kms my truck has not visited a dealership once.

I don't think I've shared this one... a bit of our recovery work made it onto the highlight reel of one of our events last September.

    (Cue up to 3:30)

The accident looks bad enough from the inside... but then consider that we found yellow paint residue on a tree about 9 or 10 feet off the ground.
