I am new in this and sorry if I look so unexperienced. I am currently buying an 85f yacht (big jump for me) and I am planning to employ 2 crews. The boat will be located in Spain and has a Jersey flag. Can anyone explain me how to manage the immigration problems? I have heard different noises from the brokers but now totaly confused in this. I am also open to crews willing to work on this small boat. I am mainly looking for one able to help me managing the boat and one for cooking/cleaning. Thanks! Damien
Hi, welcome to YachtForums. If you are keeping the boat within the EU and you have crew with EU passports, there are no problems at all. The Jersey/British flag is very popular for this reason amongst others.
Thank you very much for your answer. I understand clearly for European passport but my plan was to employ people i know from outside the EU. If i do not think i will keep them for the all year, maybe 6 months. How does this work? thanks again! Damien
You will have to either open a Spanish company and then will have to offer them a contract which will mean you have to pay their taxes etc. They will then have to apply for Residence that can take some time. The other issue might have is that due to the Economic situation here in Spain they stand a good change not to get the residence because the Spanish is sitting with enough unemployed people.
