    Hi everyone,

I have an Axopar 37 AC being delivered in the next few weeks to our beautiful waters of Vancouver, BC.

The ship comes equipped with a Garmin VHF 300i, but we would like to have the capabilities to transmit and receive AIS information. The commissioning crew is offering us a replacement VHF 215 AIS for $1500 + labour as they state the 300 AIS has been discontinued.

I am able to locate existing 300 AIS models online. What does everyone suggest? I am leaning towards buying the 300 AIS online and selling the 300i upon delivery, mostly because we like the idea of being able to play back previous 90 seconds of radio chatter.

    Thanks,

I believe the replacement for VHF-300i is the VHF-315 (the cost of the new unit is $699.99). This unit only receives AIS.

To be able to transmit AIS you need to add "AIS 800" box. You can see all details on the Garmin web site.
