In all the pics of LGB that have been posted over the years, I've never seen that sailboat in the water.

Out with the sailboat, in with a Cigarette 42 with twin 700SCs, for quick trips to shore :D

    BTW, where's the chopper?

She didn't come up the East River did she? (pretty sure she wouldn't fit). In fact can't imagine here west of Oyster Bay.

HI, Capt!!! She sure was West of Oyster Bay -- NW of Kings Point when I took the photos. She had to come out of the East River, NY Harbor. Paint job looks shabby. Chopper not spotted. I agree about the sailboat, but would rather see a sportfisher there instead. :D

Could not even imagine bringing 370' through Hell's Gate or the Brothers not to mention the traffic around City Island. In fact I'm a little surprised that the sail's mast cleared the bridges. I hope some pictures emerge from that part of their trip, but I'm guessing she must have come down the Sound. Maybe they were there for graduation @ Kings Point.

She headed well East into the Sound from where I was watching, so not sure where she landed. Tankers larger than her come through, but it was delightful to see a private of her size.

I saw her anchored off of Battery Park (southern tip of Manhattan) just below the Statue of Liberty this past Saturday. She is beautiful. Saw no activity other than an occasional crew member on deck.

The sailboat does go in the water, probably not often but I have seen it with my own eyes being deployed on a few occassions.

    Thanks for the pics guys!

I think the boat has been sold to a friend of the previous owner since then. Maybe he's not a big fan of sailing :)

    AHAHAHHAHAH:D

Hat60, it is widely known that "Paul" did not build the "Le Grand Bleu".

From what I've read since seeing her: built in 2000 by Vulkan & originally owned by John McCaw, Jr., then Paul Allen, then Roman Abramovich, who later gave it to Eugene Shvidler. Reports on cost-to-build vary widely, but my guess when I saw her was "about a $100 mil." I still want one. :D

    research

While searching the 'net for info on Le Grand Bleu, I read various stories about her history and owners. There's quite a bit out there, but one cannot always believe what is written.

I have been a big fan of this yacht for a long time, love her "go-anywhere" ruggedness.
