These also with flywheel aft
Yes it is a 48 foot steel roamer. headed to Portsmouth Ohio for new home port from Tellico Tenn. I will post pics later but it is a great trip to travel.
Uh Oh,, a Ford engine.
I had assumed wrongly Chevy. Sorry about that chief..
The little monsters I was bragging on in post #18 were Small Block Chevy's (SBC).
I am also looking toward more details and pics of your trip.
BBrrrrr, got to be cold up there. Are all the facilitys still open?
It's all good Capt. I figured that when corvette was mentioned. My self I am a GM man but these motors are cool.
I remember the big Ford large blocks monsters Chris used. 427 (429?) cid I think. Owners luved them. Never worked on them. Feared they would eat me.
That was 3 lifetimes ago. Now days I ride the backs of another dinosaur, Detroits.
Yea been learning the FE motors. will sell them later to cover cost of used Detroits later. Just need them to motor one way trip for now. Found out cam shaft not turning hoping chain broke.
Chain or counter cam gear come loose. Good luck and keep us up.
Any part support you need, let us know.
Alreds Marina in Guntersville used to have a good boneyard of old Chris Craft parts and pieces. I just looked through my pile of parts and found a couple of y block marine Fords but nothing for a big block. I'll make a couple of calls, I'm in central Alabama this week and not far from the Tennessee river.
I got the replacement one today.. returning to the ship Friday.
All hail "Atlas" the finest 1966 Roamer Motor-yacht 48' on the Tennessee!
Like a true Roamer never let a little thing like engine trouble interrupt the voyage.
Where is he now?
Did he ever find a new distributor??
Enquirying minds want to know.
Best wishes from the gang in 2021, pandemic be dammed.
Behold this thing of beauty that has arrived. I took a couple of days to rest and source parts. Atlas will depart Scottsboro Al. around the 22nd bound towards Decatur, Then on towards Kentucky lake. Notice the reverse cut on the dist. gear. I am having a machine shop make a few of these as I know someone else will have to problem at some point.
Motoring down river tomorrow morning. Still on starboard motor. Portside has a broken cam.
Wild things that FOMOCO did.
The O ring gives it away as Ford, Above that looks like a Corvette distributor.
Hope all goes well. I have learned something new again. Thank you.
Stay safe and well,
Oh, Modified F O R D descriptor;
Found On River Dead..
SBCs live forever..
First on Race Day
F'd Over Rebuilt Dodge
Well I am no Ford man but Atlas has made good head way on one 427.. Now in Louisville KY. Have all parts for Port motor just have not installed them. 800 miles down 264 left to go.
And All fingers & toes intact?
Where are the trip pictures?
How has the weather been affecting you?
Any issues from the docks or marina?
All systems working. still down port motor. It has been cold but heaters work good. Also have 200 lbs of propane just in case. I will post pics soon just pain have to resize. Fuel budget is blown. At mile marker 427 on the Ohio at Augusta KY.
Ship is handling great and tugs don't create a problem for it.
