49.3-Metre Amels Motoryacht LARISSA Delivered... Second Don Starkey design for Amels has very high volume Makkum, The Netherlands: Amels Holland, a division of the Damen Shipyards Group, announces the completion and turnover to her owners of the 49.3-metre motoryacht LARISSA. Following the success of Amels’ 62-metre SARAH, which won the 2003 ShowBoats International “Best Interior” award, we were asked to team up again with her designer, Don Starkey, to build LARISSA for her new owners, who were quite familiar with SARAH. In addition to the finest quality we assure all owners, the brief for LARISSA called specifically for exceptional comfort and a high level of crew-operating efficiency during long voyages and over many years. To meet the first requirement, in keeping with a market trend, Amels naval architects gave the hull and superstructure a high volume for the yacht’s length to allow space for sumptuous owner and guest accommodations. To assure the crew the highest degree of operating efficiency, essential technical systems such as for fuel, lubricants, and waste, were organised around “work stations” where all related functions are mounted in close proximity to allow convenient servicing and maintenance by engineers. In addition, the extra volume allowed Amels to set aside sufficient area for crew workshops and safety lockers and, as the brief also called for, the installation of first-quality professional galley and laundry appliances including a refrigerated trash compactor, of size and quality similar to those found on luxury cruise ships. The owner’s representative for LARISSA, Koersvelt Yacht Projects, who also worked on SARAH, were consulted on behalf of the owner to help Amels establish the hullform, hydrodynamics, and engine size, and to define for Starkey the envelope required for the accommodations and superstructure. As a result, LARISSA has a sundeck almost equal in size to that of a 60-metre yacht. But to provide ample shade elsewhere on the afterdecks, Starkey has extended the overhangs through their part-glass bulwarks. For the interior, Starkey designed joinery of rare Canadian elm, selected for a moderate colouring that radiates warmth and cheer as a backdrop to the furniture and decorative items. But, as is typical of Starkey, who believes in contrasts, the accents are distinguished against the wood backdrop. To avoid any sort of visual predictability, for example, Starkey gave each of the four structurally similar guest cabins its own unique décor. All the joinery and furnishing have been beautifully realised by Amels’ interior subcontractor, Metrica. LARISSA is driven by twin MTU diesels giving her a cruising range of 4,000 nm at 12 knots. Delivered just in time for the owners’ Mediterranean holiday, she left Amels’ Makkum shipyard in July. For further information please contact: Amels Holland www.***************** Tel - 31-515-334334
Larissa Shortly after her launch, she left for the Med where she was spotted by the end of July around St Jean Cap Ferrat. On August 28th, she was moored here at Port Camille Rayon at Golfe Juan.
Larissa at Golf Juan You'll notice something weird about her hull and superstructure, almost as if the two parts were put together. Something is wrong with the color striping on her hull, but I don't really understand what exactly...
Thread title has been adjusted to reflect the new name on this yacht. She is now known as "Vibrance" following her sale.
