...agreed. I'm watching that Lat line and forward momentum, sweating a bit. This path will destroy cities and barrier islands. Prayers for the Abacos right now.

+1, not looking good for the northern Bahamas. They are going to need a lot of help afterward.

The other issue, is can the Nuclear Power Plant in Fort Pierce survive a storm of this magnitude? They just shifted the cone slightly West at 11am and it now includes Orlando again. I have a feeling that the Abacos and Freeport are going to be leveled. Will be interesting to see how the homes built in Bakers Bay with no budget and to the latest hurricane code will fare.

Anything in the direct path will likely be leveled as there is no code for 180 mph. Those off the path a bit my have a chance. Then on top of that it's expected to stall a while in the Bahamas only adding to the destruction. The entire east coast of the US will now be impacted, outside of perhaps South Florida, just how much is still to be determined.

Anybody know when the New River Bridges will lock down?
Can’t get them on my handheld VHF channel 9.
They usually close the evening before Hurricane arrival, signaling all clear to cross tie boats in the canals, but we may not be affected..
Can’t find a phone number either.

I don't think New River will lock down. I'll reach out to a contact.

Footage from Marsh Harbor.... not sure on the time.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B1350PLFoaN/

On edit.... it got posted at about 13:00 EDT, shortly after landfall, still not sure when it was recorded but one can normally assume it was close to the posting time....

To the weather experts here: Is it possible that this very minor landfall is not enough to disturb the vertical structure of the storm and the stronger winds are still aloft?

Pre-hurricane winds. If those signs are still standing, I want to know who designed them right away!

Talked to the bridge. 5PM today.
Then we can string lines across the canals.

Oscar, I watched video from Harbor Island a little while ago, and their conditions are similar to that video in Marsh yet 70 miles away...so I'd venture to say that this is much worse now in Abaco...

Thank you! I'll spread the word. Officer friend has not yet responded. I think he's in briefings.

Report I just received is that there is still a long line of traffic trying to get up the river. Questioning the 5pm lock down.

Marsh? Marsh is in the eye. Harbor Island? Yes, well south, but still flooded from wind driven seas.

No idea, but I asked the bridge tender at Davie Blvd, he said 5PM, but maybe he meant 5AM.
It should be verified from a different source.

I don’t understand why the hell they d shut down the new river. This is plain stupidity. Usually bridges aren’t locked down until an evacuation is ordered

The fact that it is slowing down is terrible for the Abacos but a sign that the ridge is eroding quickly which confirms it will start turning, hopefully soon enough
