The airy expectancy for the 2007 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) has come and gone. Now it is time for an equally as large Boat Show. From the European Slips of Monaco to the American Slips of Fort Lauderdale, the 48th edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS).

As has been widely publicized, the show will start on the 25th of October and runs until the 29th of the month.

    Check in here...

At some point, we need to plan a raft-up. I'm thinking... same time, same place... the Bahia Mar Beer Barge on the NORTH Face Dock @ 2:00 PM on Thursday and Friday. (This is north of the Hall of Fame)

I'll be there on Thursday and Friday, working for The Triton and doing some work for myself. Feel free to invite me to any parties you may be hosting/attending.

Carl, let me in on the creative parking. Usually I park at the convention center and take the water taxi over, just 'cause it's easier than trying to drive on A1A.

Don't forget that between the recently ended MYS 2007 and the upcoming FLIBS 2007, there is another major boat show starting in Italy on October 6th: The 47th International Genova Boats Show (9 days of show ending October 14th).

With no doubt the largest boat show in Europe, some people argue that its getting larger then Miami and FLIBS as well!

  11. Here is some information about the show for some people who might want to come there for the first time.

Do not attemp to park at the show. There are a couple of lots near the entrance at $50.00. The most fun way is to park at a remote lot and take the water taxi.

You can not see everything in one day. The convention center has boats under 40 feet and all the boat show booths with shoes, jewelry, fishing stuff and more. Pier 66 has free admission to get in to see maybe 100 boats from 50'-125'. Bahia MarMarina, Hall of fame Marina and the City Marina at Las Olas are all connected with the majority of boats. To walk from one end to the other, inside the show, without stopping to go on a boat could take 30 to 50 minutes. Electronics tent, engine builders and the Superyacht Tent are at Bahia Mar.

There are a number of floating cocktail barges with live music.

Wear shoes that are easy to take off as you can not wear them on board, but make sure they are comfortable for a lot of walking and standing.

All of the boats on display are for sale, the brokers and salespeople on board would like to sell something. If you are just curious or sightseeing, tell them.

Wear sunscreen, dress for hot weather.

    have fun, buy a yacht....

Let's post some more information for attendees to help them enjoy the show. Any more hints and tips???

brandonw, you neglected to include in your list the Marco Polo which left the south of France last Friday 27th September, fully intent on keeping her date at FLIBS.

The day before departure, there appeared to be at least 3 Atlantic weather systems in various degrees of development (inc. Tropical Storm Karen) all of which appear to have fizzled out at this time. So the plan was to take a much more northerly latitude for the crossing.

Whatever, if you don't see her at the show, please notify the Coast Guard. At her economical 10.5-11 knots, a lot could still happen this early before the official end of the hurricane season. Not forgetting dem rogue waves...
