I am considering buying a yacht in around 18-20m. Been looking at the market for a while and, generally speaking, I prefer classic lines which I hope should hold up the value a bit better.

I am wondering how would you rate this 2001 Benetti Sail Division 20:

It may seem like apples and oranges, but the more I look into them, the more similar they look and the harder it is to decide which one actually stands to be in better shape and fare better for the future. One is newer with all aluminum structure, the other one is steel+teak but kept in a freshwater boathouse. Both should have similar, low fuel consumption. Both seem at least well maintained, although the Benetti's price is below the market, for which there's likely a reason, while De Vries stands out as meticulously cared for and I know the owner is unlikely to negotiate the price down. Both have relatively modern engines, De Vrieswith lower mileage.

Looks and interior-wise, I am torn. De Vries may look dated, but it's all cosmetics, easily refreshed. What's outdated is probably the layouts and the usage of space, the cramped galley (somehow description says "Walk-in style refrigeration/freezer capacity" but I don't see how?). Probably some other systems on board were never upgraded, although the upgrade list seems pretty complete and I am guessing the oldschool Dutch piping is solid. Benetti seems more spacious and modern overall, despite same length, but comes off as run-of-the-mill and uninspiring, unlike the "gentleman's yacht" Lentsch. Hard to say how does the quality of those 2000 era Benettis fare 25 years later.

Assume any differences in electronic and electrical systems are unimportant, I have resources to do any upgrades or fixes at nearly no cost. Location is also unimportant, I am based in both EU and US. It's more down to the insurance, superstructure condition and its maintenance, overall build quality (does the Italian alu quality from 2001 surpass 1965 Dutch steel?), etc. Can a 1964, even in this condition, be financed in the US?

With that in mind, I wonder how would the community here dissect them both?
