I am having problems wiring my hot water heater after disconnecting it over the winter.
I am getting 120 volts from both the black and white wires.
Investigating in my electrical panel it looks like the hot side is the white wires. this goes against all electrical installation codes I am aware of. Maybe it is a Philippine wiring standard???
I tried looking for Symbol wiring diagrams on line but no luck.

Anybody have any experience with wiring on Symbol boats???

    Many thanks

Are you sure it's not a 240 volt water heater? If it is, you will get 120 volt with one lead on the multimeter hooked to ground on either wire, with both multimeter leads connected to each wire you will get 240v. you connect both wires to the hot water heater. Why on earth would you disconnect the wires to begin with rather than just turning the breaker off? I highly suggest you get a marine electrician to do this for you.
