    Dear All:
On cold engine I attempted to check coolant level of expansion tank. When I open the radiator cap coolant came spewing out under some pressure. What y'all think????

    Expansion tank cap stuck?

Over flow tube from the expansion tank cap to the coolant tank blocked?

    Head gasket issue?

The cap is doing it's job if there still is a little pressure in the system when the engine is cold. I've seen this happen on engines with overflow bottles. If there's a lot of pressure than I'd start worrying.

Put the cap back on, walk away, dream of warmer days.
Some time earlier, the block was colder than when you opened the cap. Just a couple of degrees caused the expanding coolant to roll out.
Should of happened to both mains. If not, replace the caps on both next ER visit.

I had this happen on our 892's. Turns out the port engine had a kink in the expansion tank hose. New hose and it's back to normal.
