    I am considering buying a 51 Bertram w/ 1050 Mans

Does anyone know what the fuel burn curve is? Not what is posted on boatest or powerboat. Someone with actual experience. Alot of these do not have readouts for gal/hr. If some one has this boat and knows...please let me know the true burn full of fuel and water.

    Thanks

A pair of 1050 MAN's burn 70gph at 1950rpms, it doesn't matter what sportfish they're in. As the engines should be propped to achieve 2350rpm's no matter which boat they're in.

    Thanks Capt J

And could I assume from this that at 1750 rpm's you would burn 50-55 g/h?

Don't want to burn 70g/h on long runs.

You mean 70gph total or each,if for total would seem low.

Capt J said a "pair" of 1050 mans which would be for both engines total.. What experience do you have with these engines and what boat?

A 45 Cabo with them that cruised at 32 knots and burned a touch less than 70gph. I just ran a 59' Feretti with them and it burns right at 70gph at 27 knot cruise. I also ran a 57' Bertram with the 1300hp and it burned 90 gph at 31 knots at 1950rpms with them.......

Cruising at 1750 rpms would probably only burn about 10 gph less then 1950rpms and you're speed would probably much less then the fuel difference. Usually 1950 is the most fuel efficient unless it's a really fast hull.

For comparison C18 cats, burn 73gph for the pair in a 45 cabo and cruise at 30.5knots (1015hp)

    51 Bertram w/ 1050's

I have run a 51 for 8 years. Contrary to Capt J's opinion, I find the most economical speed to be between 1850 and 1920 rpms ( I don't have digital tachs). When the bottom is clean, after props have been serviced, she will burn 60-65 GPH in this range at 25.5-26.7 Kts - with a normal (80%+) fuel level and mostly full water. At 1950 my burn is indeed 70GPH but my speed is 27.5-28Kts. This corresponds to the MAN fuel burn curve published by MAN. The boat I run does not have a tower. Top Speed is 33.8-35Kts depending on load and conditions, but I have never run her up there long enough to know burn rate.

This boat is VERY sensitive to bottom growth and will drop 200 RPMS and 5 Kts with moderate growth so keep her clean and prop speed the wheels. Oh and I am turning 5 Blade Rolla props.

NOt without her issues, but all in all this has been a great boat. I talked the boss OUT of moving up to a 57'!
