Is anyone aware of any yachts in the 150’ to 175’ range that have given up some of the space typically used for a full-beam master suite for a larger owner’s private lounge/office?

I’ve included an example below, but would like to see some other ideas and layouts. (This one is from the Calixas C4 General Layout) I’m sure this can be done during a refit of an existing yacht, but right now I’m just collecting ideas. Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful.

(I've heard that one of the recent Westport 164s did this by making the VIP suite the mastere suite and then modifying the typical master suite into something else, but I've never seen pics or a layout of this.)

    -----------------------------------------------------------

My life-style must be completely different than other people’s since I really only have two uses for my bed and neither of them require that much space. (Possibly, I'm doing it all wrong.) In my bedroom right now I only have a bed, two side tables and a chair-- no TV, stereo, bookcases, or computers. However, part of the “master suite” does have a private office/lounge with everything you would expect, including a day bed.

I would like to see in a master suite:
    • A much smaller room where the bed is with no TV or other distractions, yet it can be opened up to the private office/lounge.
    • Windows that can be completely darkened to keep the bedroom dark even at mid-day. (I love naps.)
    • A larger owner’s office/private lounge. (In my home I spend a lot of time in this room.)
    • Combined dressing rooms and bathrooms. I like dressing and bathing with my special someone.

Any ideas, examples you've seen or suggestions?

Does anyone know how the Westport 164 changed their mastersuite?

Another unusual master suite from a 180' ketch concept I made in 1997. Here you also have a gym and a swim platform in between the owners and guest areas.

Thanks for the ideas. I really like the Chianti idea with the closable curtain/partition.

If you run across any others, please let me know.

You make a good point, and I'm actually surprised you don't see that kind of layout more often. It would seem to me that large spaces around the master bed wouldn't be missed when the owner is fast asleep. And unless they enjoy spending an afternoon sitting on their bed, I would say the space could be put to better use, such as a private lounge. I have a little trouble with the idea of an office, because I think one's yacht should be an escape from the office, but maybe that's why my yacht is still imaginary.:D
