Does anybody know any companies that make custom sound enclosures?

    sound enclosures

    northern-lights.com

Northern Lights makes a sound enclosure to axactly fit the northern lights generator. If you have a PTO, they make a modified end cover for it. We have made custom enclosures for the military and for yachts. Have a look at the northern lights web site.

    Custom sound enclosure for Deutz

Well, this is not a typical generator.

It's a Deutz 1015C engine, driving a A/C generator on one end and a DC generator on the other end (for bow truster).

So, not a stock item. See attached pictures.

what does it actually mean: generators with class approval

I wonder what exactly happens to a generator to have it approved for class. Is it a question of a few more assessories, a test certificate or is it a different engine?

Is there a different betweens say Germanischer Lloyd and ABS?

    Thorwald,

Your recent thread (the last post above) has been merged with one of your existing threads. There is no need to start a new thread for each question, specifically as it pertains to the same subject.

    Hi,

Your boat was probably built to someones Classification rules at the outset.

What classification society do you operate under the jurisdiction of now?

Have a look around the engine and see if there are any class stamps on it.

Class approve series of engines not just one or two, it would be prohibitively expensive for you to try and get that setup approved by Class if it has never been done before.

    class for generator

Well, it was built according to the Dutch Shipping Inspection rules (Dutch USCG equivalent) and as such didn't require to be classed.

Right now, the ship is without class. After all, being classed is a voluntary thing (*) As this moment, our conversion project is being reviewed by Germanischer Llloyd to see if they 'accept us to class'. Basically, they want to be sure we can meet their rules for the next 20+ years.

From what I understand, most generators like those from Onan or Northern Lights can be delivered with a class certificate if desired. What I'm trying to find out is what exactly does one or the manufacturer have to do to be able to give a class certificate.

    Thorwald

(*) it's not always voluntary: if you want to get MCA Large Yacht code certification or compliance, MCA requires the vessel to be classed if it wants to be certified for unrestricted ocean service. If I recall well, passenger vessels also have to be classed.

Hi Thorwald, for sound encloseres, you could check:

    www.marquip.nl and
    www.deruyterdieseltechniek.nl

De Ruyter also composes "custom" gensets for shipbuilders by assembling the appropriate engines and alternators, so it should be possible to get yours classed too if it is not already.
If it's below 100 kW, it's probably not even necessary.

    Custom sound enclosures

    THanks Bruno,

I had already found Marquip but the other is new to me.

Indeed, I learned yesterday that my gen. set don't have the be classed.

I'm not sure because it's below 100 KW or because it's a yacht application.

    Bedankt !
