MTU 16V2000 M91 full rebuild; in vessel

    I've heard of that before, forklifting out the hull sides. Easier than repairing interior decks and aft bulkheads. Had a 1979 Jim Smith that had double salon doors with large engine hatchs the size of the 12 cyl Mann's. We would roll back the carpet and remove hatches which exposed the entire engines for maintenace and cleaning. Seldom see that setup anymore. Engines could be lifted thru the salon doors.

    Great photos! I am having this done now on my 62 Viking with 12V2000M96L's. Turns out my pressure on one engine was running just high enough to pop the dipstick out. Tech said it is not the crankcase, so most likely a cracked liner. There was some type of recall on the ones I have, so MTU is covering the replacement of all liners, pistons, etc. I have 2800 hrs on them, also did just purchase the 3 year EW. Luckily, MTU stepped up here, or would have been major cost.

    Please, Please send in lots, lots of your photos on a new thread.
    Your ship is of great design change from Pascals project. Different hurdles to over come and make work.
    It is also good to hear that MTU is stepping up on a warranty issue. More notes on that in your new thread would be great also.

    Glad they have another one next to them to look at so they can remember how it goes together ! Lol!
    I might of done that one or twice with my old twin screw vessels...:oops:

    Series 60 on da forks.

    Nothing else is this easy.
    It's that initial crunch the mind goes thru thinking about a big hole in your hull side.
    After that, it's smooth pudding.

    If your pulling both engines, most of the time, one hole works for both.

    Great ER/ shop to rebuild engines. Doesn't get any better, we had some major engine work done in the typical crowded Sportfish/ER, slow and difficult work.

    Titanium heat exchanger plates going in today. Plates were cleaned and fitted with new seals. Cooling system was filled today and pressure tested (Last picture)

    hoping to finish the fuel plumbing, intake manifold etc on Monday along with alignment. Maybe able to fire it up on Tuesday and sea trial on Wednesday. Fingers crossed !

    I have a lot of video which I m putting together and will upload when it s finished.

    Were going to need a tour of the whole engine room also.
    I try to look at lots of other items and your not getting them in the pictures.

    Pascal, what's the orange bowl (sort of) behind the turbo, near the right hand of the chap in foreground?

    That’s the hose which connects to the filter.

    they did the port engine last year, but that was just an inframe. Kits, heads, bearings etc. Didn’t have to replace the crank, and pull the ends. This one is a full rebuild
