What do you guys think about this ,What other motors could replace them ? mine are Locked up Nick Crosby ncauto in Eugene,Oregon the Boat is in Port Aransas Pass Texas
I don't think C18's are enough to replace a 16/92. Most likely looking at a C32 if you want CAT. And the C32's are wider so depends on allowable space in engine room.
Oh sheet. Yours were 12Vs, The OP here asking about 16Vs. Your correct on the C32s, we discussed them. Your experience will still show lots of trials you went thru.
Quite honestly, it will perform close to how the 16v92's with C18's.......1150hp versus 1400 HP? A hell of a lot of weight savings.......probably an easy 10,000 lbs.......if not more...... Sure C32's would be faster.........MAN v12's would also be a viable choice.....
As discussed in another thread, Installing different engines removes the grandfather clause and then will require the IMO/EPA certificate, only available with new engines.
The MTU 10V2000, rated at 1600 hp might be a good candidate. Vikings has those engines in their 58 convertible, and the performance seems to be good. You will save alot of weight and engine room space over the 16v92s
Nothing against the MTU V10s, but ballpark weight and size is comparable to the MAN V12. And in principle, I'd rather have the 1650hp version of a V12 engine available in up to 2000 hp rating, rather than the top power version of a V10, which also spins 150rpm higher than the MAN, btw. That said, also other factors are important, not least how close a good dealer is.
Given the OP hasn’t been back to this since his first post it looks like just another newbie hit and run Too bad, I was hoping to watch someone else’s repower
I think he was just here fishing. I've been watching that 60 on eBay for many months where he posted he was not interested in putting anymore money into the boat he says was partially sunk and that nothing in the engine room worked. https://www.ebay.com/itm/194219818662?ViewItem=&item=194219818662&vxp=mtr
