I believe you, but it does make sense that everything about the show is phony. I just can't imagine paying to embarrass myself on international TV, but that is the world were in today. 15 minutes of fame is more important than one's self-respect and the respect of those we know or do business with. I can't imagine associating with or doing business with anyone I've seen on that show. It's sort of like the Gong Show for rich people.

On a recent episode of BD sailing they featured a supposed doctor from L.I. It was obvious to me that he and his buddies all abused steroids and were severe alcoholics as well as being totally immature. I have to think that any hospital he's affiliated with are thinking hard about suspending his privileges and that his license to practice is being looked at. Hope he enjoyed his 15 minutes. Hopefully he's actually just an actor.

Yes, they love the tv time. I can't imagine loving showing the world what drunken messes you are or how demanding or anything else. However, for many, it's the best advertisement they could have.

there was recently a response in a boating magazine where someone wrote in saying that he was on an episode of below deck and that nothing is scripted and all of the filming is real stuff. i dont remember which magazine it was, and i trash them after reading them so i cant go back to look

We get into the definition of scripted. My understanding is that if you're talking about lines to read and exact things to say and do that it's not scripted. Perhaps the better word is "managed", as roles and personalities are discussed and days are planned.

Never has a maritime endeavour been so abused by so few, especially in the BD Sailing. Its nothing more than a cheap tits and ass show. Most crew on either show wouldn't last more that a day on any sail or power vessel in my command...personal pleasure, charter or commercial. Okay, for TV viewers who eat up the so-called reality shows...enjoy...its just another cheaply made show pandering on some base instincts. My Rant!

Well put and exactly my thoughts as well (especially about the crew not lasting a day). But the T & A are enjoyable (and yes ladies there's eye candy for you as well). Thankfully Deadliest Catch is now back on with real boats and real crew and no meetings in the "saloon".

It is reality TV! Did you expect it to reflect real life? We find it good for a laugh particularly in these times.

Too bad it gives such a bad impression but do you really think people would watch in large numbers if it reflected real life on a charter yacht?

You realize this is a show on Bravo, a network whose primary commodity is the "Real Housewives" franchise... not documentaries. LOL

Apparently he and others don't as they take it much too seriously. Interestingly though, they have apparently watched it. Wonder how many times. Reminds me of those calling into talk radio to complain about how horrible the show is.

Honestly I think Deadliest Catch has gone the same way... it was great earlier On but now it s just weird to see these tough guys pouring the hearts out about their feelings like these housewives of god knows where. They ve turned into a bunch of drama queens.

That's true stuff that goes on when working anywhere, especially on boats when you're just filling time, but yeah boring. The producers just emphasize whatever they think will attract viewers. In the run up to the new episode they showed a bunch of blood, guts and big seas episodes to make sure the guys would watch, and a bunch of touchy feelie stuff to attract the women. They even had Johnathon Hilstrand back on and shooting his 9 at another crabber's buoys to attract the kid viewers. Yeah it was better early on when it was this is what it's about. Apply if you dare. But then I'm a guy.
We watched BD & BDSY this past season because there was just nothing but murder or flipping houses on any other stations. So many stations and so much garbage. It's rough being retired and having a light schedule during the winter. lol. Now the warm weather is coming and the virus has everybody stuck in the house with nothing much to do. Welcome to the retired life. The BD shows are like the House wives shows. I watched for parts of one season waiting for them to get good. They didn't.

I m sure it goes on but the show focuses too much on the drama queen episodes just like BD focus on the crew drama.

Fortunately I have a couple years of retirement under my belt and am set up to keep busy once the warm weather hits. There's going to be a lot of people whose minds will be melting as they watch TV this spring for nothing else to do.

56 m. Oceanco The Wellesley (formerly Anedigmi, re-named The Wellington for the show) will be featured in the upcoming season of Below Deck Med. Here's a little Captain's tour...
