    Hi everyone,
I have developed a leak on the starboard side of my master state room (master is forward). I cant seem to tell where is it coming from. I have removed the hull liner and found a board the has turned black from water damage that appears to be holding up the forward deck along the walkway. Has anyone run into this issue before? I believe I need to remove this board but it is glassed into the hull and I don't want to break through the hull cutting it out. If anyone has gone through this already any ideas would be a great help. I seem to think its coming in from the rub rail but that is me guessing

I had the problem as well. My source was the screws holding down the bow rail so I pull them all out in re bedded them all and the leak stopped. Don't know if you have the bow rail or not

I have the original bow rail still in the toe rail. I will try and do that today while it is not raining. Is it still possible to have this leak from the rub rail because I am ready to pull that and do the same thing.

Do you have some pictures to show what you are seeing?

Yeah I don't see why not...some sort of fastener is holding the rub rail on..which can and do leak. Cover all the bases when it comes to topside leaks.

I doubt it. The water has to flow down not sideways to cause that kind of damage. It only takes one of the screws to seep over the years. Go slow and pull every screw slowly and check for wetness and softness. It could be tough to fix if it has been seeping for awhile.

I assume you are speaking of the lumber running fore and aft at the top of interior hull structure. You can also try a meter to see if you can localize the water intrusion before you start chasing every screw. But, depending on what you find and the condition, you may also want to re-bed all your hardware attached to or near the toe rails. If the wood is "punky" you will have to have that section cut out and rejoined to have an effective repair.

That board is plywood....which is all over the inside of your hull from the looks of it. A lot of the wood still looks ok. You have to stop the leaks first.
Not sure if it need replacing.

I would guess the leak is somewhere on your deck and running to that location.

I went and re bedded all the bases for the toe rail, rub rail, cleats, bow chocks, and laid a thick caulk bead around the bow pulpit. if we get a heavy rain again I will see if it leaks. it did not leak from my water tests since I soaked all the areas heavily for about an hour and then washed the boat right after that with no water coming into the stateroom

Yeah..I know ..for some reason you can wash the hell out of the boat, hose it down ALOT and it won't leak. But that rain and wind, and it starts leaking some how. It is frustrating. Hopefully you got it.

I chased leaks on my Egg Harbor for a long time. Just when you suspect you know where the water is coming from only to realize it is coming from an entirely different area. Leaks can be very frustrating!

Almost always, finding the leak is the hard part. The fix is usually pretty straight forward. I chased one intermittent leak for several years. Finally found it by accident. The fix took 10 minutes.
