650k is definitely at the high end of the market for that boat regardless of what he has in it. I ended up quite a bit under that number when I bought mine 6 months ago and it was in outstanding condition other than 1000 hr general service that was needed. My guess is unless someone with more money than sense falls in love with it, he will have it for a while.

FWI, in that price range, Post, Viking, Hatteras, (production boats in general) come around all the time. Make sure you are comfortable with the price, I wouldn't pay above market for a boat. Make sure you get the engines you want, imo, Cat is just easier to deal with than Mans (service, parts, etc). I just sold a custom 55' carolina boat with C18s for way less than what "I" feel it should have gone for. It was in that range and was an exceptional boat, so I feel it is still a pretty good buyers martket. Good luck.

You can say that about production boats and yes they do come around, but understand that Post did not churn out boats like Viking and Hatt.

My 56' is 7 or 8. That comes to about 1-2 a year. Maybe 3 were built in a few years. The 53 I'm sure is limited as well.

The 50 was Posts big model of the newer hull design and they made 99 of them. They skipped hull#13 as I was told by an ex Post VP.

I am just about rapping us a full paint job and bottom job. I will post pics when I get the boat back. Like a new boat now but not $2-3 million for a new Viking.

I saw you post in another forum that you have the man 1300hp engines... how do you like them? I finally found a boat, not a post, but 2003 viking 52 C with the man 1300's with 700 hrs... went out for engine survey today, boat seemed to run awesome... surveyor said all was good and would have official report in a couple days with oil sampke results..

I think they are solid motors. They are quiet, efficient and mine don't smoke.

They just sea trial my boat in Wanchese NC yesterday with new bottom and new 5 blade Veem props.

Top end saw 45 knots and 43 knots in both directions, 1750 (per tach) saw 35 & 33 knot cruise. At 1750 I am looking at 62-64 GPH, very happy with that for a boat this size.

You should service the heat exchangers every 2-3 years, that is primarily to check to see if you have corrosion issue on the end cap surfaces of the tank. I had my cooler ends resurfaced by MAN in Florida and was told by wrench that the surfaces hold up much much better after they are redone by MAN. They will not admit they had/have issue with dissimilar metal corrosion on the end cap areas of the main tanks.

Other potential issue can arise is intercooler bypass mechanism that can get hung up and stays bypassed so you cannot make power. Many guys remove them totally and run without bypass all the time. The bypass keeps the smoke down by cutting down cool water thru intercooler so charge air is warmer when you are at low rpms. Works off vacuum or boost, I forget which. Very good idea and it does cut down smoke dramatically at low RPM.

If you see a real smoker at the dock they probably took bypass out. My mechanic gave me a simple rig to install if bypass does fail allowing me to open it up full time until you get part fixed.

I will start new thread with pics of newly painted boat when I get the boat back tomorrow.

awesome! thanks for the info! can't wait to see pics of your boat! I was/still am upset that the 2 post 53's I found wouldn't come down on price.. one actually went up after agreeing on an already high price.... anyway, looking forward to closing on the Viking within next 2 weeks! Did owner disclose CCP gelcoat issue prompting paint job?

Do you know about gelcote problems Viking and Post and Cabo had with CCP brand (Cook Composites) gelcoat?

I would inquire about paint job, who did it, what they did to remedy the issue. Did they remove all gelcoat on entire boat etc...?
