Thanks for the pictures ! She is still one of my all-time favourites, although I would put some other furniture in her........
So .... how long does the "fairing" task take? Serious question, I am clueless about the fairing process. Thank you, Kelly Cook
The fairing process for the hull and all superstructure details lasted about 3month from rock bottom to workshop fairing, which has be very exact in respect with the filler process. Very large yachts could take a time span up to 6 month. We do and did most fairing for all the yachts built in north Germany.
The Polar star is a nice expedition yacht but i found a webpage with a dackhand that works onboard who gives somwhat of an insight to his job on board and provides pics as well...http://deviant.cyberdeath.org/confession_.asp
Great link Ron! Every yachtie should follow along with this gents travels. It's the next best thing to being there... without all the hard work!
I don't know if our guy that works on board the Polar Star (ex Northern Star) is still working with the yacht but his latest entry on his website(at the end of April) takes us to his home, New Zealand. What a beautiful place... so.. natural.. looks so not polluted, must be one of the cleanest advanced countries in the world. http://deviant.cyberdeath.org/confession_.asp
A cool picture of two Lurssen twins -in essence- together. "Polar Star" (ex. "Northern Star") and the new 2009 bigger "Northern Star". Picture from *****
Northern Star's Interiors I just read the review of this ship and must say she is marvelous. Her interiors are near flawless, particularly the use of the carmine red. As pretty as the rooftops in St. Barth's. The copy of course said that it was "Cerise Red" and not "Carmine". Cerise being the color which students of the MSc programme in Computer Science and Engineering at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology. Irrespective of that ... she is aesthetically quite something.
Hi, Google seems to have a different version of Cerise. http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=e...tle&resnum=6&ved=0CFQQsAQwBQ&biw=1920&bih=887 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerise_(color)
well, i based all my colors by Pantone System, among many others according this table: http://www.perbang.dk/rgb/9F1F4C/ for several Cerise Reds & http://www.perbang.dk/rgb/DD5A91/ for several Carmine Reds, more rosa etc... Btw: Is not the Yacht Hull, blue?, but then what blue etc...
Irrespective of one's eye, she is a beauty. From the over-sized screens on the Bridge Deck -- lined up like so many iMacs in a row -- to her soft furnishings and naive artwork in the Guest stateroom -- she is tip-top in every aspect. Noblefibers LLC at their website have a very nice Carmine Lambswool throw. One can access it from their website at http://www.noblefibers.com/ by navigating through "Products" and then "Merino" and finally "Lambswool Throw". Or one can reach it directly if one isn't interested in the journey at http://www.noblefibers.com/Lambswool_Throw.html. The Carmine Red is at the very top adjacent to the charcoal. The black of the charcoal making the red so much easier to see, especially when looking at swatches which will change colour when on a rounded surface. It is very nice to keep warm and be, covered.
