What are the stock size wheels for the 43 Cabo Flybridge with 900 CR MANS? I’ve seen 28x40 28x37.5 and 30x39. After much discussion the 30x39’s performed the best in terms of engine load speed and rpm. Thanks in advance !!

It depended on which gears and which props Cabo used (veem, federal, etc.) All of the old boat tests list the prop size and gear reduction.

The 30x39 are Veems, the 28x37.5 are Michigan or Acme not sure which. Talked to Sams they said 30x35 were standard with 900’s. The ZF gear ratio is 1.767 according to Sams for same engine.

They would be michigan federal propellers (28x37.5). I've never heard of Cabo using Acme.

Finally got this boat home to AL, thinking about adding 1 degree to the current 28x38 four blade Michigan’s. WOT full fuel/ water 5 persons they spun up to stbd 2365 and port 2370. Running 32 knots. Rated is 2300 and supposedly should get 35kts. Any thoughts?

Leave it alone. Man's run best when slightly underpropped. Man requires a minimum of 2300 rpms but prefers 2350. You won't see anymore speed by adding an inch of pitch and will actually lose speed at cruise (80% load). 43's NEVER ran 35 knots. I was a factory Captain for Cabo and ran many 43's. 32 knots is good for that boat.

2350 to 2370 is perfect IMO and where I keep my set up at.

Ok good to know, I’ve talked to a few other 43 owners with different wheels, one had Veem 30x39 from the factory with paperwork. That’s significantly more aggressive wheel. Sam’s said their paperwork indicated 30x35’s from the factory. I don’t have any paperwork on my wheels from the factory, and skip didn’t know what they were. We had a suspicion the owner before skip may have damaged the original wheels. 28x38 four blade are the wheels all the 800 MAN owners have so we’re thinking with 900’s they should be different?

I was the Captain for Cabo that did the week of seatrials with the 2nd set of Man 900 common rails in the United States at the time for MAN. I had Man North America on the boat with the President of MAN N.A., and 2 MAN engineers, and a twin disc engineer for a week straight. Man did a lot of adjusting ALL of the engine parameters in the computer for all of the next motors, to give the engine more acceleration (was a little bit of a dog as programmed as far as acceleration), while balancing black smoke. They wanted to get away from the reputation of blowing tons of black smoke getting on plane of the previous non-cr's. But also needed more acceleration. Anyways, the boat was a brand new 43' Cabo FB with no hardtop/tower, owners gear or anything, just 5 people and wasn't always full of fuel either. Best we ever saw was 33 knots. Afterwards, It then got a tuna tower and ended up in Texas. So you're boat is running perfect, don't screw with it. The CUP is different between your props and the 800's.

Cabo initially used Michigan Federal props, then switched to Veems later on due to prop burn issues, then when Brunswick acquired Cabo, Brunswick switch back to Federals to save money. Veems are a superior prop.

Heck of a Cabo fan to have all those performance reports and brochures in his desk drawer all these years later.
