Cabo 40 generator exhaust

    QUESTION: Where does the raw water exit the boat after passing through gen. heat exchanger. I noticed that the generator exhaust is "dry" when it exits boat port-side amidship. I immediately shut down generator believing it was not pumping water but was later told it exits under boat as to create a "vacuum" while underway? Westerbeke 12.8 on a 40 Csbo convertible..

    thank you for answering.. the manual states nothing about this and drawings of through-hull(s) do not indicate where.

    You have an exhaust water separator. After the muffler, there is a second box that separates the cooled exhaust gases above the water line. The hot water is released below the water line. Makes for a very quiet exhaust system. No splashing or gurgling is heard.
    The back side, you can not see how much water the raw pump is moving. Train you ear, when it gets loud, impeller time is near.
    I don't know of any vacuum. Our friend just south of me (CSkipR) may chime in. Similar ship I believe.

    Follow the hose from where it exits the side of the boat, it exits below the waterline, like 2' down/in from the muffler through a seacock.

    thanks guys.. i was, at first very concerned of no water exiting exhaust (like my 37 Bertram did) and shut it down. Later on, it was verified that indeed it was getting water and expelling it overboard as designed. "New" boat to me as well as new brand.. trying to grasp systems from afar with only short trips to visit my new "mistress" :)

    BTW: a very different boat compared to my bertram w/Detroits, which felt like a "over-built tank".

    The cabo is a great boat and the 40' is one of their best running hulls. I've run a lot of them. They like some trim tab at cruise speed. Is yours an express or Flybridge, what engines?

    2007 Flybridge w/Man CR-800's.. i noticed, it did not need as much tab down as did my 37, very "nimble" feeling and pleasure at cruise

    I just delivered that same very boat from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Fernandina Beach, FL and loaded it on a freighter bound for Bermuda. I've run at least 7 different 40' FB's and around 300 Cabo's of all sizes.

    The Cabo 40' is an extremely well built boat and great running and I know most all of the ins and outs of the entire Cabo lineup.

    Was with a friend looking at one. The broker was familiar with Cabo, said it was the best riding hull they built, deep V I think.

    I d like to install an air water sep on my Hatt as the exhaust is released amidship with a fairly loud and powerful spray I hate not to see the actual water discharge though and wonder about discharging the water a few inches above WL, just like air con water. It doesn’t make much noise in the first place. Plus, that s one few below WL hole...

    My last Gas-sep install, I did install the water outlet a couple of inches below the boot. Not by design but the only place available. Depending on loading, the water discharge is just below or half at the water line.
    You can not hear any water flow or splash but you can see the out flow. Turned into a great end result.

    All 2" hose and fittings. Centek muffler and gas-sep. 20KW NL gen-set in a NL sound box.

    They work great a few inches above the waterline and you usually get a nice steady stream of water without the pulsating of the exhaust gases so it it less annoying and still allows you to have a handy visual aid on your gensets raw water cooling flow.

    Glad to see you have a new ride, I am sure she will be kept just as pristine as your Bertram, congratulations!

    There are a few really knowledgeable and hands on 40 Cabo owners on this site who can get you up to speed, happy boating :)

    thank you for all the replies.. looking forward to getting familiar with her. i reside in Michigan and will be making the trek back north with her throughout the winter. At current she is in Stuart awaiting some work at A&J's and then the plan is up to Wilmington, NC until the ice is gone in the erie canal/great lakes. Hopefully i'll have a few chances to utilize her this winter??

    Though this subject was a few years ago I did look at my generator exhaust configuration on my 2005 Cabo 40 convertible. The generator exhaust discharges via this Vetus waterlock muffler located in the aft bilge area of the engine room directly below the generator. Then the generator exhaust hose runs down the port side above the main engine exhaust and discharges into the port engine main exhaust aft of the muffler.

    With mine, 2007 40 Cabo it exited port side amidship with the water below on the bottom running surface.
