It was so unfortunate to see the project Sassi so close to launch get destroyed by the fire at the dry dock. Does anyone have info as to what happened to the damaged in built yacht? Any pictures from above any info as to if the owner and Lurssen with the insurance company will decide to salvage the build? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

I recon that the people with this knowledge probably aren't allowed to divulge it on a public forum but I think Project Sassi was supposed to be the new 'Al Mirqab'.

When you check the full list of yachts with Tai Ping carpets, there's an 142m 'Al Mirqab' design by Winch Designs and built by Luerssen. This company usually 'lists' a new yacht when they're about to be launched and this Al Mirqab listing is sitting on Tai Ping site for quite some time - if it wasn't for that terrible fire I assume Sassi would've been launched by now.

But I can be completely wrong . Those magicians at Luerssen can make 140m yachts appear like it's nothing, so the newer Al Mirqab might pop up some day without us noticing :)

She is in Hamburg and scrapped right now. There are pictures from above, just google...

I heard, that she would be the new Coral Island, but no idea if it is true.

But we will know in the future because Lürssen is building a new version of her right now.

Thanks everyone for the replies I've searched and found some pics online, it must be the most secretive scrapping of all time. I guess Lurssen will make it its business to launch the new Sassi in record time. They are in a league of their own.

I'm really looking forward to see if they can build a new one in record time. Lurssen should then be crown king of yacht builders then if they are not already.

Sassi 2 will be built in Hamburg and Bremen. For this reason the large floating dock 10 in Hamburg will be covered next year.

So the construction of Sassi will start no earlier than the end of next year.

Well that's good news. I wonder if this new project will have a similar design like the first one did. Hopefully build time goes fast because I was very excited to see Sassi.

They had artist drawings in the newspaper today about Floating dock 10 with its future enclosure. According to the news, dock 10 will be towed to Bremen for building the enclosure and then towed back to Hamburg for the intitial building of Sassi 2. Costs of the Reconstruction of this dock are astimated at around 17 Mio Euros. Sassi will be finished in Bremen. May be, parts of the undestroyed remains of Sassi will be used for Sassi 2. The lower central part of Sassi (engine and machinery spaces) were not damaged by the fire itself and the fire water.

Interesting slowdown in the Lurssen large yacht building schedule, Lightning was in the covered dry-dock for an unusually long period of time (18.5 months compared with 13.5 for Shu) and nothing seems to have taken her place since she was floated out a month ago. Redwood is in the floating dock at Bremen-Aumund and Sassi-2 makes another boat (one that is a long way of) but otherwise it doesn't seem to be the pace we have been used to.

I agree seems like a slow down for Lurssen.

There was a „problem“ with Lightning. The initial launch date was in January/ February.
By the way, the first sea trails occurs in the next 14 days.

That the dry dock is still empty, is caused by the fire of Sassi. Initial, Redwood/Opus should be transfered to the floating dock after the launch of Sassi in September.
Instead, Redwood stayed much longer in Lemwerder than expected and they were not able to start the next project.

Well its understandable that the schedule if out of whack since they had a huge fire damaging one of their soon to be delivered yacht and equipment, I suspect we will not return to normal for a while, also remember there should be a 50+ meter yacht that was signed last year that should be almost halfway done somewhere. One would think with the purchase of B & V there would be more deliveries but this industry has a long lead time, probably in 2-3 years we will see more launches.

But Redwood went into a temporary floating dock fairly rapidly so the delay couldn't have been that significant. B&V were only building, very slowly and on speculation, the BV80 at the time Lurssen acquired them and I assume that was scrapped as nothing more has been heard of it.

According to local news the prosecuter has ended the investigation. It was impossible to find out what started the fire on Sassi. The damage was too extensive.

Ashamed to hear... looks like it's an end of an era for this project unless they have already started construction on a new one.

The burned hull was never gonna become anything after that much damage. Doubtful that the owner would start a new one before insurance claims on progress payments etc, what a sad story for everyone involved imagine seeing this build through the final stage and have it destroyed to push your dreams at least 4 more years.
